Refuting the distinctions of reasons. The first is: Some people think that the wisdom that realizes the existence of a jewel in that place from the sign of the light of the jewel is not a valid inferential cognition, because if the jewel is taken as the reason, then the reason and the subject of the reason do not exist; if the light of the jewel is taken as the reason, then it is unestablished; if only the light is taken as the reason, then it is uncertain. Then, it follows that the valid inferential cognition that realizes the existence of a rice seed in that place from the sign of a rice sprout is impossible. If the rice seed is taken as the reason, then the reason and the subject of the reason do not exist; if the rice sprout is taken as the reason, then it is unestablished; if only the sprout is taken as the reason, then it is uncertain. If you accept this, then most of the causal reasons, such as inferring fire from the sign of smoke, will become erroneous. The second is: Some people think that the wisdom that realizes the existence of a permanent fire on a mountain with smoke from the sign of smoke is a valid inferential cognition; others say that the mountain with parts is the subject, and there is a permanent fire because there is a real smoke. When writing like this, it is said that it is wrong when self-righteous, but not wrong when it is actually the case, which is unreasonable, because the three modes regarding this are not established. If the permanent fire and the real smoke are not established, but the mere fire and the mere smoke are established, and it is thought that there is no fault, it is also unreasonable, because if the distinguishing characteristics of the permanent fire and the real smoke are not established, then the mere fire and the mere smoke distinguished by them also do not need to be established. Explaining the valid cognition that determines the characteristics of inference. Third, regarding explaining the valid cognition that determines the characteristics on the basis of the object, there are three: the way it is taught in the scriptures, the way it is explained by the wise, and identifying the reasonable side. The first is: If the characteristic of valid cognition is determined as non-deceptive wisdom, and the basis of the object is determined as the two, direct perception and inference, then on top of these two bases of the object, does the characteristic of non-deceptive wisdom exist as determined from itself? Or is it determined from others? If according to the first, then no one would be confused about the characteristics of valid and invalid cognition, so teaching the characteristics of these two in the scriptures would become meaningless; if according to the second, then another determiner would be needed for this, so the determiners would become endless. The answer to this is: Understand one's own nature from oneself. From convention is valid cognition. The scriptures are what reverse confusion. It is said. The second has three: Only others determine
