4. What is a definition? It is that which pervades the subject and is established without intending to exclude. There are three types of this: If we take an example with objects, such as the definition of a cow as having a head, being fully arranged, etc. What is a definition with the fault of impossibility? It is that which does not establish how to establish it as intending to exclude. There are two types of this: It is impossible because the self-reverse is not established, and it is impossible for the intended exclusion even if the self-reverse is established. In the first, there are two: establishing the terms of self and other, and distinguishing by terms. Each of these also has two, making a total of four, as explained earlier. The second has three: impossible due to the absence of different entities, impossible due to the absence of different self-reverses, and impossible due to the absence of different meaning-reverses. In the first, if we take an example with the dharma of objects, such as establishing a horse as a cow, then establishing the gathering of horns, etc., is a different entity; such as establishing a moment in the definition of something made, it is a different reverse. If we take an example with the dharma of non-objects, such as establishing a general meaning as a non-object, then establishing it as something taken by a confused root consciousness. If we take an example with the dharma of both, such as establishing knowable as a non-affirming negative, then establishing it as something that cannot be made an object of mind. The second, impossible due to the absence of different self-reverses, is establishing the reverse of the subject itself as the definition. If we take an example with objects, such as establishing a hidden cow as a cow, then establishing the hidden place, the other two are easy to understand. The third, impossible due to the absence of different meaning-reverses, is establishing the definition on the basis of its own meaning as the subject. If we take an example with objects, such as establishing the cow itself as a cow, then establishing the hidden place; if we take an example with non-objects, such as establishing permanence as permanence, then establishing imperishability. 3. Refuting the debate: Is it considered a fault to establish these on the subject? Or is it considered a fault not to establish them? If that examination is the same here, then it is not the same. Here, all faults are considered faults of establishing the arrangement, because at that time, the meaning-reverse transformation is not accepted as you wish. 2. On the establishment of the meaning to be explained, there are three: refutation, establishment, and elimination. The first: Some say that the name that is based on an object explains the meaning, it is one entity, because establishing the definition as a reason, establishing the meaning to be explained, that is the reason of self-nature. Like the name "cow".
