Regarding the establishment of seeming appearances, the view of the early Tibetans who asserted that non-valid cognitions are definitely five in number is refuted, and the manner of determining them as three non-valid cognitions, as well as the definitions and classifications of each of these, are explained. The third chapter, through the 'Ornament of Clear Realization' and the 'Commentary on Valid Cognition', establishes that at the beginning of the chapter on direct perception, the establishment of general characteristics is explained, as well as the establishment of universals and common substrates spoken of in the chapter on self-benefit in the 'Commentary on Valid Cognition'. The views of the Vaisheshikas and Samkhyas, who believe that universals are either a single substance or different substances, are refuted. In the chapter on direct perception, the view of the early Tibetans who believed that universals and entities have a common substrate is refuted, and the eight lines of reasoning for proving that universals are non-entities are explained, as well as the reason for establishing universals and particulars in the appearance of conceptual thought, and the manner of obtaining the object of engagement, the own-characteristic, based on this. In the fourth chapter, the section on examining 'other-exclusion' in the 'Compendium on Valid Cognition', and the extensive explanation of the establishment of 'other-exclusion' in the chapter on self-benefit in the 'Commentary on Valid Cognition', as well as the extensive explanation of the establishment of 'other-exclusion' in the chapter on direct perception in the occasions of proving that universals are non-entities and that direct perception is free from conceptual thought, refute the view of the early Tibetans and some Indians who believe that the own-characteristic of the object is 'other-exclusion'. The manner of establishing 'other-exclusion' in the way conceptual thought engages, and the explanation of the way the object of non-conceptual wisdom appears in the occasions of valid and seeming direct perception in the 'Ornament of Clear Realization' and the 'Commentary on Valid Cognition', as well as the manner of establishing appearances, and the explanation of how to avoid the five debates, such as the fault of mutual dependence of understanding by outsiders who accept 'other-exclusion', are explained. In the fifth chapter, since the way the expressing sound and conceptual thought engage with the object is the same, the expressing sound also engages with the object by excluding. Some outsiders believe that the own-characteristic of the object is the actual denotation of the term, while others believe that the universal entity is the actual denotation of the term. In the chapter on self-benefit, 'words indicate the signs of terms', etc., and in the chapter on direct perception, the occasions of proving that sense consciousness is free from conceptual thought, and in the chapter on benefit for others, the occasions of refuting the view of the Vaisheshikas who believe that a living body possesses a self, explain how the King of Reasoning refutes, and on top of that, some Tibetans believe that the own-characteristic is the direct object of expression of the word.

Having blocked the others, the expressing sound directly engages in eliminating others, and the way the expressed attains its own characteristic; generally, when explaining the expressed and the expressing as one, they are divided into four: the actual expressed and expressing, and the adhered-to expressed and expressing, and the reason why there is no difference when applying them; and the five disputes such as the outsiders considering the general characteristic of things as the expressed, have all been shown. The sixth chapter explains that, at the beginning of the chapter on one's own sake, in order to establish the pervasion and counter-pervasion of the sign, it is necessary to establish the relationship between the sign and the property, and how to determine these relationships; in the chapter on the sake of others, it also explains how the argument becomes either correct or incorrect depending on the relationship; in addition, it summarizes the meaning of the detailed explanation of the establishment of relationships in the examination of relationships, refutes the relationship in things themselves, establishes the relationship in the mind, and shows the valid means of establishing the relationship. The seventh chapter explains that, in the chapter on one's own sake in the Sutra and the Commentary on Valid Cognition, and in the Drops of Reasoning, there are many explanations of contradictory arguments, and the meaning of the establishment of contradiction explained at the end of the chapter on the sake of others, refuting the view of the early Tibetan scholars that merely being different entities and impossible to coexist is contradiction. The establishment of contradiction is also needed in the case of a correct argument that uses contradiction as a sign to refute the contradictory side, therefore, if it is a contradiction of coexisting, then one of them needs to be taken as the sign, so that it becomes a correct argument that eliminates the other; in mutually exclusive contradictions, there are two types: direct contradiction and indirect contradiction distinguished by it, for the former, even if one of them is taken as the sign, it cannot become a correct argument that eliminates the other, however, taking the contradiction of indirect contradiction as the sign, it can become a correct argument that eliminates the contradictory side, which requires the distinction of direct contradiction, as shown. The eighth chapter explains that, in the chapter on the establishment of valid cognition in the Commentary on Valid Cognition, the definition of valid cognition is explained as being non-deceptive and newly knowing and clear, and the determiners are self-determining and other-determining, and at the beginning of the chapter on direct perception in the Sutra and the Commentary on Valid Cognition, it is determined that the object to be measured is two, thus determining the meaning to be established by the two as valid cognition.
