Regarding the topic. The first definition: Whatever other-exclusion that is a non-affirming negative, that becomes the object of appearance for conceptual thought. An example of the defined: like the imputation that appears as a pot in the conceptual thought that apprehends a pot. The second definition: What is that? That which is established as a substance. Thus, all three contradict each other. If it is other-exclusion, then it is said that it must be a negative other-exclusion. It is not reasonable, because if it is a negative, then it is necessarily the case that after the object of negation is negated, it does not introduce another phenomenon. If it is a negative other-exclusion, then it must be that. If you accept, then the phenomenon of the absence of only a pillar, it should be that. The reason is that it is only the absence of a pillar. It is not possible to accept, because it introduces the existence of phenomena other than the pillar. Furthermore, the imputation that appears as a pot in the conceptual thought that apprehends a pot, it should be that. The reason is that it is the negation that is shown in "because there is no self-nature of reversal." Because it is the negation, it is the imputation that appears commonly to those who are clear by themselves on the face of exclusion. Secondly, some scholars generally consider that there are three types of other-exclusion, such as negative other-exclusion, but the other-exclusion in reality is the basis for excluding dissimilar types, so it is named other-exclusion. The definition of other-exclusion is definitely the negative other-exclusion and the mental other-exclusion, because on the aspect of mind, it is divided into two through the difference in the way it appears. Because in realization, the appearance of merely distinguishing dissimilar types is the negative other-exclusion, and the appearance of it as an external object is the mental other-exclusion, so it is said. The meaning of that is that in the conceptual thought that apprehends a pot, among the two, the appearance of merely distinguishing non-pot and the appearance of pot, the former is the negative other-exclusion, and the latter is the mental other-exclusion. Therefore, if one accepts the mental other-exclusion as imputation, then this system is truly rare and wonderful, but if one accepts the mental other-exclusion as the mind itself, then the former is not certain. Thirdly, some people, in the system of Shantarakshita, if it is other-exclusion, then it is necessarily the case that it is a self-characterized entity, because if it is that, then the meaning of distinguishing non-that must be merely distinguishing on the face of exclusion. Therefore, it is not reasonable to say that mental other-exclusion and negative other-exclusion are imputed other-exclusions, because the imputation that appears as a pot should not be the object of appearance for the conceptual thought that apprehends a pot.

Then, what is not other-exclusion? Because the self-character of the pot is not its appearing object. If you admit it, then its appearing object does not exist. Why do you admit it? Because the self-character of the pot is not its appearing object. Furthermore, does Śāntarakṣita take the meaning of merely distinguishing the non-pot as distinguishing on the aspect of exclusion, or does he distinguish the meaning on that? He distinguishes the meaning on that. If it is the former, then the negation of merely distinguishing the non-pot becomes other-exclusion, because it is merely distinguishing the non-pot on the aspect of exclusion. If it is the latter, then the other-exclusion of the negation of the pot becomes, in meaning, merely distinguishing the non-pot, because Śāntarakṣita considers it to be merely distinguishing the non-pot, because he said, "This ox does not have non-ox." Regarding the fourth view, some say: The pot that turns back from the non-pot is the other-exclusion of the self-character meaning of the pot, the imputation that appears as a pot in the pot-grasping concept, the other-exclusion of the pot's mind. The negation of distinguishing the non-pot is the other-exclusion of the negation of the pot's opposite. Therefore, if it is the other-exclusion of the mind, then it is not pervaded by imputation, and if it pervades, then the mind that turns back from the non-mind, the subject, should be so, because it is the other-exclusion of the self-character meaning of the mind, because the three aspects of other-exclusion are also established on the mind. If it is the other-exclusion of negation, then it is not pervaded by negation, and if it pervades, then the imputation that appears as negation in the concept that grasps negation, the subject, should be so, because the three aspects of other-exclusion are also established on it. If it is the other-exclusion of the self-character meaning, then it is not pervaded by the self-character meaning, and if it pervades, then the imputation that appears as the self-character meaning in the concept that grasps the self-character meaning, the subject, should be so, because the three aspects of other-exclusion are also established on it. If it is the other-exclusion of the self-character meaning of the pot, then it pervades the self-character meaning, and if it is the other-exclusion of its mind, then it pervades imputation, and if it is the other-exclusion of its negation, then it pervades negation, they think so. To this, others say: That which appears as the negation of the pot in the concept that grasps the negation of the pot, the subject, should be negation, because it is the other-exclusion of the negation of the pot, because it is the other-exclusion of the mind of the negation of the pot.
