Consider whether this contradicts the meaning of the statement "it is not now." Second, according to our own system, in the presence of the conceptualization that grasps a tree with three characteristics, the exclusion of others that appears as different from non-trees is the general characteristic. Even though it is not truly established in all clear appearances of trees, it is established in the mind of non-inverted other-exclusion. Therefore, if such a general characteristic is negated, the particular is also negated; and if the particular is established, the general is also established, thus engaging in affirmation and negation. Because (the text says): "Due to delusion, it is perceived as one object." Third, refuting the argument: If self-characteristics are not realized by affirming and negating other-exclusion, it is because other-exclusion does not exist as an entity, and it is not possible to directly affirm and negate self-characteristics. Answer: There is no fault. Because the non-inverted conceptualization of other-exclusion confuses the meaning and exclusion as one, thereby engaging in affirmation and negation, the self-characteristic of the object of entry will be realized. Different generalities are negated because they cannot appear. The Samkhyas of the snowy land say that things are one, and after being dispelled by the various rays of scripture and reason, the Sakya school considers this to be exclusion. This is the concluding verse. The way of understanding general and particular characteristics has been explained. The Way of Understanding Appearance and Exclusion Second, regarding the way of understanding appearance and exclusion, there are two aspects: a general instruction on how to enter, and determining the nature of each. The first is: non-conceptual awareness enters through the appearance to its own object, because the action is completed by appearance alone. All conceptualizations enter into their own object through exclusion, because the action is not completed by appearance alone, but the action of excluding dissimilar types is performed. Thus, of these two, appearance has two types: mistaken and non-mistaken. Exclusion has two types: inverted and non-inverted. The second has two aspects: the actual distinction between appearance and exclusion. Secondly, the entry of exclusion and the entry of affirmation are examined. The first has two aspects: appearance and exclusion. The first has two aspects: definition and classification. The first is: the characteristic of how non-conceptual awareness sees its own object. Secondly, there are two types: the appearance of mistaken non-conceptual and the appearance of non-mistaken. The first: definition. The apprehended aspect in which the non-existent self-characteristic clearly appears. If it is divided, it is the appearance of mistaken sense consciousness and the appearance of mistaken mental consciousness. The second is the appearance of non-mistaken non-conceptual.

Regarding the definition, classification, and instances of appearance, there are three aspects to establish the definition: First, appearance refers to the clear manifestation in its own time of a non-conceptual, non-erroneous consciousness. Second, appearance can be divided into two types: the appearance of self-cognizant direct perception and the appearance of object-cognizant direct perception. Third, from the three aspects of the reality of the object, the mind's mode of apprehension, and the establishment of the correspondence between mind and object: First, the Vaibhashika school of Hinayana believes that blue and its impermanence are different entities, blue being the form aggregate and its impermanence being a non-associated compositional factor. This is because the five aggregates are not one entity. The *Abhidharmasamuccaya* believes that blue is substantially existent and its impermanence is nominally existent, but here, for example, on a single blue object such as lapis lazuli, the made and impermanence, etc., not to mention different entities in reality, even the reverse aspects are not different. The appearance of these three as different only appears in conceptual thought, while in non-conceptual consciousness, they appear as one. For example, the cuckoo and the cedar have no common characteristics in reality. If it is the entity of the cuckoo, it must not be the entity of the cedar; if it is the entity of the cedar, it must not be the entity of the cuckoo. Second, the made and impermanent aspects of blue appear as one in sense consciousness because they are not different entities in reality. Because in the direct perception of blue, when blue appears, its made and impermanent aspects appear as one. The cuckoo and the cedar appear as different in non-conceptual consciousness because they are not one entity in reality. Because at that time, when the cuckoo appears, the cedar may not appear; when the cedar appears, the cuckoo may not appear, and when the two appear together, they appear as different entities. Third, there are three aspects: the reality of correspondence, the establishment of its proof, and the establishment of direct perception as non-erroneous. First, non-conceptual, non-erroneous consciousness and its object, the external object, are in correspondence between object and subject, because if the external object exists as one entity, then it also appears as such there; if it exists as different entities, then it also appears as different entities there. Second, whatever is a single entity with an inseparable essence, there can be no two parts of seeing and not seeing in direct perception. For example, when seeing lapis lazuli, it is like seeing its blue color.
