If it is said that because it is established in this way, there is no fault of contradicting the scriptures mentioned above. Then, is it truly engaging in refutation and establishment with respect to clinging to the exclusion of others as self-characterized for sound? It is truly engaging in refutation and establishment with respect to self-characterized. If it is the first case, it contradicts the promise that from the sign of being made, one intends to establish that sound is impermanent, not that the self-characterized sound is impermanent. If it is the latter case, it contradicts the view that the three aspects of pervasion, property, and meaning are exclusions of others. Furthermore, in the system of logic that one has accepted as one's own valid cognition, it says: Substance and negation, general and particular, establishment and exclusion of others, conceptual and non-conceptual, other classifications are explained elsewhere. I intend to explain according to the treatise. In the commentary to this, it says: Substance and general are objects, conceptual and non-conceptual are minds, appearance and elimination are ways of grasping, and it is contradictory to explain them separately and definitively, because things and substances, etc., are generally accepted. In the biography of the Dharma Lord composed by Lhopa Thamtse Chenpo, it says: The Kashmiri Paṇchen said: I do not know many little things, blue exists in meaning, and he said that he understood all the key points of exclusion of others, which is also contradictory, because blue is generally accepted. Then, how did he understand all the key points of exclusion of others? Blue and sound, etc., exist as they are on the basis of their own self-characteristics, so there is no need for refutation and establishment. However, because there are imputations such as blue is not blue, sound is permanent, etc., refutation and establishment are done in order to eliminate all imputations. At that time, establishing that sound is impermanent eliminates the sound that appears to be permanent in the mind of exclusion of others. Also, without distinguishing substance and negation, it means that only sound is established as impermanent. Therefore, those who believe that sound is permanent hold the sound that exists in meaning and the sound that is eliminated in the mind as one, so it is acceptable to do so when entering, but if you do so when explaining the way of existence, you have not understood the key points of exclusion of others. The Great Lord said: It is wise to distinguish when explaining, and it is obtained by confusing them as one when entering. Fifth, when saying that sound is permanent, one actually says that sound is permanent, and when saying sound, it implies that it is impermanent.

Secondly, if wood is established as a substance, then is it the same substance as Śāpa or a different substance? One should ask whether the valid cognition is direct perception or inference. If it is said that a valid cognition that becomes conceptual is inference, and a valid cognition that becomes non-conceptual is direct perception, and there is no valid cognition other than these two, then the wood that becomes Śāpa is the same substance as Śāpa, and the wood that is not Śāpa is a different substance from Śāpa, and there is no wood other than these two, thus making an analogy. If it is said that wood, the subject, should be either the same substance as Śāpa or a different substance, because both you and Śāpa are established as substances, then valid cognition, the subject, should be either direct perception or inference, because it is a valid cognition, and it is the same until the end of the kalpa. If it is said that by analyzing and negating the appearance of a generality as the same substance and a different substance, it does not negate the establishment of a generality as a substance, because if it is established as a substance, it is not pervasive that it must be either the same substance or a different substance, then the eye consciousness that perceives two moons, by analyzing and negating whether it is direct perception or inference, it does not negate that it is a valid cognition, because if it is a valid cognition, it is not pervasive that it must be either direct perception or inference. Regarding this, nowadays children are equally deficient in merit and intelligence, and have abandoned shame and embarrassment together, and many who have abandoned the tenets of the scriptures and the afterlife together, unanimously say that valid cognition is direct perception, hoping to help in holding pervasiveness on the determination of the number of valid cognitions. When asked for proof, valid cognition, the subject, is direct perception, because it is a consciousness that clearly perceives its own characteristic. If it is not established, its own characteristic, the subject, should appear clearly in valid cognition, because it is the object of appearance of valid cognition, because the basis is established. Furthermore, the object to be measured is not a general characteristic, because the valid cognition is not direct perception. Furthermore, valid cognition, the subject, should be direct perception, because it is either direct perception or inference, and it is not inference. If any one is not established, then it is said that the number of direct perception and inference is not determined in valid cognition. Then, a person, the subject, should be a noble one, because he is a person who directly realizes selflessness. If the pervasiveness of the reason is not established, selflessness, the subject, should be directly realized by a person, because it is the object of direct perception in the continuum of a person.
