Sa. First, the first four are in order: In the view of Dharmakirti, such as "sound is impermanent"; in the view of the opponent who has not established "sound is produced," when "produced" is used as a reason to establish "sound is impermanent," such as "sound is produced"; when establishing "sound is impermanent," such as "sound is permanent, like the quality of space"; the Samkhya school says, such as "eye, etc., are the subject, they act for the sake of others," when it is stated like that, such as "eye, etc., merely act for the sake of others." The fifth is: such as "sound is not audible," "a pot is permanent," "happiness does not arise from giving, etc.," and "the moon with a rabbit cannot be expressed by words." The second part includes: the three faults of reason, subject, and example, and the three qualities of these three, totaling six aspects. Regarding this, there are two investigations: an investigation into the definition and classification, and an investigation into the establishment. First, there are two types: negation and affirmation. The first is: Some say that what becomes the object of elimination of the definition of a valid reason is the definition of a faulty reason. This also applies to the fault of the subject and the fault of the example. A faulty reason and having a faulty reason are merely distinctions in terms of opposites, but these two are not different in meaning. For example, when establishing "sound is impermanent," if "object of visual consciousness" is used as a reason, then "object of visual consciousness" itself, in terms of its non-establishment on sound, is the possessor of the fault of an unestablished reason; in terms of its elimination of the pervasion of the subject-property ( पक्षधर्म,pakṣadharma) of the definition of a valid reason, it is established as the fault of an unestablished reason. Similarly, a valid reason and the qualities of a reason are also merely distinctions in terms of opposites, but they are not different in meaning, they say. Then, "object of visual consciousness" as the subject, using the reason of "object of visual consciousness" to establish "sound is impermanent," this should become the object of elimination of the definition of a valid reason, because it is a faulty reason regarding that aspect. Acknowledge the pervasion of the reason. If acknowledged, then the basis of the reason in that aspect should become established. Others say that the dissimilar class of the definition of a valid reason is the definition of a faulty reason, then, does the meaning of dissimilar class refer to what is not that? Does it refer to what is directly contradictory to that? Does it refer to the object of elimination of that? If according to the first case, then "produced" as the subject, should become the signified of establishing "sound is impermanent," because that is the definition of that, because it is not the definition of a valid reason for establishing that. If according to the second case, then what is not the definition of a valid reason, as the subject, should

It follows from that characteristic. Because of that characteristic. If it is according to the third case, then it will be harmed by the reasoning stated earlier. Some say that what is to be grasped as a reason is the three ways of proving something as a pseudo-reason, which is the characteristic of a fault in reasoning. For example, in order to prove that sound is impermanent, the reason that is put forward, and the fact that the property of the subject is not established in proving that sound is impermanent, is like the object of apprehension of eye consciousness, which is the three ways of proving something as a pseudo-reason for proving that sound is impermanent. Saying this contradicts the idea that the three ways are the characteristic of a correct reason. Because, that is the dharma, its characteristic is not that. Because, what is to be grasped as a reason is the characteristic of a correct reason that proves something as a pseudo-reason. The reason is admitted to be excluded. Furthermore, in the presence of Shakyamuni, the reason of being made is used as a reason to prove that sound is impermanent, and the fact that the property of the subject is not established in proving that sound is impermanent with the reason of being made, that is the dharma. In the presence of Shakyamuni, being made becomes the three ways of proving something as a pseudo-reason for proving that sound is impermanent with the reason of being made. Because, in the presence of Shakyamuni, the reason of being made is a fault in the reason for proving that sound is impermanent. If it is admitted, then the fact that being made is a pseudo-reason for proving that sound is impermanent with the reason of being made becomes obscure to Shakyamuni. Second, the characteristic of a fault in reasoning. The aspect of merely being a reason, from the point of view of the reason that one possesses, that reason becomes a pseudo-reason. That is, the fault of the proof, the defect of the reason, the fault of the reason, the fault of depending on the later limb, and the fault of being related to merely being put forward as a reason are all different names. As it is said, "The fault of the proof is of all." And, "The defects of the reason, etc., are also like that." And, "The fault of depending on the later limb." And, "Therefore, it is related to just that." Because it is said like that. The fault of the proof and the fault of depending on the later limb are not pervaded by the fault of the reason, because the fault of the example is also those two. If classified, there are three faults of reason: contradictory, uncertain, and unestablished. As it is said in the Pramāṇavārttika, "All the faults of the reason, if summarized, do not exceed three types: contradictory, uncertain, and unestablished." Because it is said like that. For example, in order to prove that sound is permanent, the reason is that it is made by Ishvara.
