It is believed that the one who adorns directly points out the way to harm the particular of the subject, thereby implying the others. Lha, on the other hand, believes that directly pointing out the way to harm the particular of the dharma implies the others. Regarding the meaning of the treatise, the latter is more appropriate. In short, the distinctions of dharma, the distinctions of the subject, and the ways of recognizing the nature of the subject itself are sequentially pointed out. It is said that the reason for not grasping the inferior distinctions when initially recognizing is because of this. In the treatise, it says, "The subject, the distinctions of dharma, and," which is done for the sake of easily composing verses. The third part has two points: first, identifying the seemingly valid assertions that are the object of refutation; and second, explaining the reasoning that refutes them. The first part has two points: first, the presentation of the tenets of the Vaiśeṣika school; and second, the assertion that establishes those tenets. The first point is that the Vaiśeṣikas believe that, as it says, "Substance and गुण(Sanskrit Devanagari, guṇa, Sanskrit Romanization, guna, quality) कर्म(Sanskrit Devanagari, karma, Sanskrit Romanization, karma, action) सामान्य(Sanskrit Devanagari, sāmānya, Sanskrit Romanization, sāmānya, generality) विशेष(Sanskrit Devanagari, viśeṣa, Sanskrit Romanization, viśeṣa, particularity) समवाय(Sanskrit Devanagari, samavāya, Sanskrit Romanization, samavāya, inherence) six kinds," all knowable things are contained within the six categories of meaning. Among these, substance is what serves as the basis for गुण(Sanskrit Devanagari, guṇa, Sanskrit Romanization, guna, quality) and other meanings, namely the four elements, space, direction, time, self, and mind, totaling nine. Among these, the latter five, such as space, and the individual परमाणु(Sanskrit Devanagari, paramāṇu, Sanskrit Romanization, paramāṇu, atom) of the four elements are permanent substances, while the first aggregates with parts, such as the initial combination of two परमाणु(Sanskrit Devanagari, paramāṇu, Sanskrit Romanization, paramāṇu, atom), are impermanent substances. गुण(Sanskrit Devanagari, guṇa, Sanskrit Romanization, guna, quality) is what depends on substance and other meanings, as stated in the Foot-Eye Sutra: "Form, smell, taste, touch, as well as number, measure, individuality, conjunction, disjunction, other, non-other, intelligence, pleasure, suffering, desire, hatred, and effort are गुण(Sanskrit Devanagari, guṇa, Sanskrit Romanization, guna, quality)." Kamalaśīla says, "What is included by the word 'etc.' are heaviness, smoothness, conditioned phenomena, dharma, non-dharma, and sound," and sometimes warmth and moisture are also said to be गुण(Sanskrit Devanagari, guṇa, Sanskrit Romanization, guna, quality), so there are twenty-five in total. (Sanskrit Devanagari, karma, Sanskrit Romanization, karma, action) is, as stated in the Foot-Eye Sutra, "Stretching, contracting, lifting, placing, and moving are कर्म(Sanskrit Devanagari, karma, Sanskrit Romanization, karma, action)." Generality is what causes a single word and concept to arise for the excluded things, a substance different from the excluded things, such as the great generality of existence itself and the small generality of cow-ness itself.
