If it is merely considered that the two act as obstacles to each other, then what is it? If one does not accept scriptural testimony as valid cognition, then the subject of generosity, etc., is also not established. Therefore, it is impossible for one dharma to obstruct another on top of that. If one accepts scriptural testimony as valid cognition, then it is established by valid scriptural testimony. Therefore, the meaning established by valid cognition is much more powerful than the absence of valid cognition. The second is: Some students of Dignāga say that if one accepts scriptural testimony as valid cognition, then pure scriptural testimony will become an obstacle to self-contradictory commitments. Because if one accepts scriptural testimony as valid cognition, then engaging in generosity, etc., produces happiness, and not producing happiness from engaging in it, are equally powerful. Because the establishment that engaging in it produces it depends on valid scriptural testimony, and that also depends on accepting scriptural testimony as valid cognition. Because at that time, not producing happiness from engaging in generosity, etc., is also established by valid scriptural testimony, because at that time there is an acceptance of valid scriptural testimony that shows that engaging in generosity, etc., does not produce happiness. Thirdly, some say that it is said that scriptural testimony is a defeater from the perspective of pure scriptural testimony, and it is said that scriptural testimony is an obstructer from the perspective of apparent scriptural testimony. This is unreasonable, because it is necessary to examine whether there are both defeaters and obstructers based on pure scriptural testimony. Some say that pure scriptural testimony has proof that it does not deceive its stated meaning, and it has a defeater for deceiving it, which is the meaning of saying that scriptural testimony is a defeater. Pure scriptural testimony has no proof that its stated meaning is established, and it has no defeater for its not being established, which is the meaning of saying that scriptural testimony is an obstructer. This is unreasonable, because if pure scriptural testimony has proof that it does not deceive its stated meaning, and it has a defeater for deceiving it, then it is the same that it has proof for its expressed meaning, and it has a defeater for its not being established. Again, some say that regarding the way to eliminate trust, in general, there are two ways to eliminate trust: contradiction with one's own words, and contradiction with the words of scripture. The first has two types: a single statement contradicts itself in its literal and implied meanings, and there is contradiction between earlier and later commitments. The first is only the elimination of what is an obstructer, for example, the meaning that all words are false.

It is like the clinging meaning of the vow of "No." Secondly, there are two types of removal: removing by way of obstruction and removing by way of harm. The first is like vowing to be "Mar" before and then vowing to be "Mosham" later. The second is like vowing that sound is permanent before, and then, by way of certainty through valid cognition, whatever is made is pervaded by impermanence, like a pot. It is like vowing that sound is also made. Secondly, in contradiction with the scriptural word, there are two types: contradiction with the scriptural word that has become the proof of the subject of the vow, and contradiction with the scriptural word that has not become that. The first is like vowing that Dharma does not generate happiness when life is transferred, and being harmed by the pure scriptural word that one has vowed to oneself. The second is like saying that one has vowed that sound is impermanent before, and then later removes it by vowing that the scriptural word that shows sound is permanent is valid. That is unreasonable, because in the removal of trust, dividing it into two types: contradiction with one's own words and contradiction with the scriptural word, and dividing only the former into two types: contradiction between what is said directly and indirectly, and contradiction between prior and later vows, is because it has already been prohibited before. Furthermore, it is unreasonable to remove the contradiction between what is said directly and indirectly in the same statement only by way of obstruction, because for that, there are two types: the person who makes the vow himself cognizes the direct and indirect implications through valid cognition, and both of them are not cognized through valid cognition. In the former, the direct implication harms the indirect implication, and in the latter, the indirect implication harms the direct implication, because those two are directly contradictory, and one has a reliable valid cognition as a support, while the other does not. Similarly, it is also unreasonable to remove the vow to be "Mar" before and then the vow to be "Mosham" later only by way of obstruction, because for that, there are also three types: the person who makes the vow himself cognizes "Mar" through valid cognition, does not cognize "Mosham" through valid cognition, and both of them do not cognize through valid cognition at the same time, because it changes as before. Fourth, in determining one's own system, there are two types: analyzing which of harm and obstruction exist in contradiction with one's own words and contradiction with the scriptural word, and analyzing which of harm and obstruction exist in one's own words and the scriptural word. The first is: for the contradiction between one's own words directly and indirectly, if the indirect implication is cognized by valid cognition, then it is a harm to the direct implication, because those two are directly contra
