The subject, there is fire, because there is smoke, like that. The third is divided into two, from uncertainty arises doubt: previous virtuous deeds, the subject, exist, because they are the cause of present happiness. Although there is a possibility of certainty, doubt still arises: in the middle of the three valleys, the subject, there are peacocks, because the sound of peacocks is heard, like that. The third, the unestablished with respect to the proponent, is divided into two: unestablished for the former proponent and unestablished for the latter proponent. The first is, the Samkhya school asserts, the clear intellect, the subject, is without mind, because it is subject to arising and ceasing, like that. Regarding this, if the clear intellect, which is known to the Samkhya, is taken as the subject, then it falls into the category of the nature of the subject being unestablished. If only the clear intellect is taken as the subject, then it is unestablished for the former proponent, because the Samkhya school considers the manifestation of what was previously existent as arising, and the non-manifestation of what was previously existent as ceasing, and does not consider the new arising of what was previously non-existent as arising, nor does it consider not staying for the second moment of its own establishment as ceasing. The second is the naked ascetics say to the Buddhists, the tree, the subject, has mind, because it dies when the bark is peeled, like that. Regarding this, if the meaning of death is understood as abandoning life and breath, then the nature of the reason is also unestablished. In terms of tenets, it is unestablished for the latter proponent, the Buddhist. In short, if the meaning to be established as the reason is established in the common perception of both the proponent and the opponent on the object of debate, then even if the word is not established in the common perception, the pervasion is established. For example, when the Buddhist says to the Vaisheshika, the atoms of the four elements, the subject, are impermanent, because they have a body, when this is stated, although the word 'having a body' is not established for the Vaisheshika with respect to the atoms of the four elements, the meaning of 'having a body', which is 'tangible', is established, therefore the reason becomes correct. Furthermore, the Vaisheshika school considers that there are two kinds of substances: direction, time, atoms, self, mind, and space are substances that pervade all, while earth and so on are substances that do not pervade all. For the characteristic of substances that do not pervade all, they acknowledge the name 'having a body', but they do not acknowledge the name 'having a body' for atoms. Therefore, although the name is not established, the meaning of the reason, which is 'tangible', is acknowledged for the atoms of the four elements, therefore the meaning is established.

If the reason of the sign is not established, even if the sound is established, it will not become a correct reason, just like the two reasons presented by the Samkhya and the Naked Ascetics in front of the Buddhists as previously stated. If all unestablished reasons are to be summarized, in terms of meaning, unestablished reasons can be divided into two categories, totaling six types; in terms of cognition, unestablished reasons can be divided into three categories, totaling six types, making a total of twelve types. The parts that become faults due to the non-establishment of each aspect of the subject and the predicate are all attributed to the non-establishment of the nature of the reason. The parts that become faults depending on the philosophical system are all attributed to the non-establishment of the nature of the non-reason in the subject. Second, regarding the uncertain reason. It is divided into three parts: definition, classification, and the meaning of each example. First is the definition: Some say that any reason belonging to the side of the subject is the cause of generating self-doubt; some say that any reason belonging to the side of the subject is the cause of generating doubt about the established object of that aspect, which is unreasonable, because if it is an uncertain reason, it is not necessarily the cause of generating self-doubt. Some say that any reason belonging to the side of the subject of that aspect is uncertain about the perverted and the real pervasion of that aspect, then the uncertain reason of establishing the heard sound as either permanent or impermanent is not established. Some say that any reason belonging to the side of the subject of that aspect is the debater of the side of the subject of that aspect who is uncertain about the perverted and the real pervasion of that aspect, then it becomes an uncertain reason for establishing sound as permanent with the made nature as the subject, because it is that definition. If the uncertain reason for the perverted is not established, then the debater of the side of the subject who establishes sound as permanent with the made nature as the subject is the subject, and the pervasion of establishing sound as impermanent with the reason of made nature is truly established, because it is the reason for non-establishment. If you admit, then that subject, you establish the three aspects of sound as impermanent, because you establish the side of the subject of that aspect, and the real pervasion of that aspect is established. If you admit, then that subject, if you are, the establishment of the real pervasion of establishing sound as impermanent is pervaded, because it is admitted. If you admit, the real pervasion of establishing sound as impermanent is not established, and the made nature establishes sound as permanent.
