Just like the classification of (reasons), correct reasons are divided into three types: effect reason, self-nature reason, and non-apprehension reason. And apparent reasons are divided into three types: contradictory reason, uncertain reason, and unestablished reason. This is the view of the treatise. The third part has three types. The first is the unestablished reason. The unestablished reason has two aspects: definition and classification. The first is, some say: Whatever is posited as a reason, but the pervasion is not established, for example: rabbit horns, as the subject, sound is impermanent, because the pervasion is not established. Because this is about the unestablished reason. Some say: It is not a pervasion, this statement is unreasonable, because this is not the nature, but the object to be explained. The self-view is: The reason that the pervasion is not established is the definition of the apparent unestablished reason. The second part has three types: unestablished in reality, unestablished in consciousness, and unestablished in relation to the proponent and opponent. The first type has three: the nature of the subject (Tibetan: ཆོས་ཅན།) is not established, the nature of the reason is not established, and each part of them is not established. The first type is further divided into two: First, the nature of the subject is impossible to establish from the beginning, for example: I, as the subject, am all-pervasive, because I am the enjoyer of all. The second is possible, but not established in the debate, for example: sound, as the subject, is hateful, because it is created. The second type, the nature of the reason is impossible to establish from the beginning, and possible, but not related to the intention of cognition, are two types. The first is: this person, as the subject, has a self, because he has the qualities of a self. The second is further divided into two: The first, not being the nature, is not established, for example: sound, as the subject, is impermanent, because it is the object perceived by eye consciousness. The second, the pervasion is different and not established, is divided into two types: the basis and the reason are different, for example: sound, as the subject, is impermanent, because it is sound. The dharma and the reason are different, for example: sound, as the subject, is impermanent, because it is impermanent. The basis and the dharma are different, considering that they are included in the category of not being established in the previous debate, so they are not listed separately. The third type, each part of them is not established, is divided into two types: the reason is not established in one part of the subject, and one part of the reason is not established in the subject. The first type, the general category

Among the two types of subjects, those established as individual subjects and those established as general aggregates, the first is: A tree, the subject, is sentient, because it sleeps, like that. If the meaning of sleep is understood as the curling of leaves, then it is not established on one aspect of the subject; if it is understood as falling asleep, then the nature of the reason is not established; or depending on the tenet, it is not established for the opponent. Also, sound, the subject, is impermanent, because it is produced by effort. When this is stated, although the effort-produced, which differentiates sound, is established on the sound produced from the tongue and palate, it is not established on the sound of water and the sound of wind, etc. Therefore, the reason is not established on one aspect of the subject. The second is: The three aspects, the subject, are a correct reason, because this can represent a correct reason. When this is stated, it is not established on each of the three aspects individually, like that. In the second type, there are also two types: using a general class as the reason and using a general aggregate as the reason. In the first type, establishment and non-establishment are the same, for example, if the general class of sounds is taken as the subject and permanence is established as the reason, it is like non-establishment. If permanence is taken as the subject and createdness is established as the reason, it is also non-establishment. Establishment is the same, for example, if sound is taken as the subject and createdness is established as the reason, the createdness of sound is established, the createdness of non-sound is not established, but just as the mere createdness being established is not a fault, the effort-produced is established on one aspect of the mere sound, and not established on one aspect, but just as the mere effort-produced being established is not a fault, it is like stating the same. The second is: The eye consciousness of the appearance of two moons, the subject, is direct perception, because it is a non-conceptual and non-erroneous awareness, like that. The second type, non-establishment in the mind, has three: doubting the subject, doubting the reason, and non-establishment due to doubting the relationship between the two. The first type has two: doubting from the absence of a definite possibility, such as establishing a meat-eating vase as the subject; doubting even with a definite possibility, such as not being certain whether it is a jewel or a lamp, establishing a jewel as the subject, like that, it is the same no matter which reason or property is established. The second type also has: doubting from the absence of a definite possibility, such as a vase, the subject, is impermanent, because it is made due to being free from desire; doubting even with a definite possibility, such as on a mountain with gray substance when it is not certain whether it is smoke or steam.
