For the sake of benefit, it is therefore categorized as a consequence sign. Third, regarding the classification, there are three ways to determine, and two necessities for the declaration. The first is: most of the subject-property of the consequence sign is established through direct perception. For example, through the direct perception of seeing smoke on a mountain with smoke, one derives the definite understanding that the mountain with smoke has smoke. It is also established through inference. For example, through the sign of being purified by the three examinations, the Eight Thousand Verse (Prajnaparamita Sutra) uses the valid cognition of realizing its own teachings to establish the subject-property of the former preceding, which is established through inference. The pervasive relation is established by relying on the determination of the relation of arising from that. The second is: the Samkhya school believes that things arise from causes of different kinds. To counter this wrong view, the consequence sign of establishing a real cause is declared, because this shows that smoke arises from fire and does not arise from the head of Indra, who has no fire. The Ishvara school believes that all the world of containers and essence is made by Ishvara. To counter this wrong view, the consequence sign of inference that establishes the cause-property is shown, because this shows that all things arise from their own substantial cause and co-arising conditions, and not from anything else. The Charvaka believes that the consciousness of a newborn does not have a prior consciousness, the Samkhya school believes that yogic direct perception has not yet arisen, and the Vaibhashika believes that cause and effect exist simultaneously. To counter these wrong views, the reason of the consequence of establishing the cause preceding is declared, because this shows that the consciousness of a newborn has a prior consciousness, the Eight Thousand Verse (Prajnaparamita Sutra) has the yogic direct perception of realizing its own teachings preceding it, and if it is an effect, it must have its own cause preceding it. The Mind-Only school believes that there is no external object. To counter this wrong view, the correct consequence sign of establishing the difference of the cause is declared, because this shows that sense consciousness arises from an external object other than sense consciousness. The Charvaka believes that there is no previous life. To counter this wrong view, the consequence sign of merely establishing that there is a cause is declared, because this shows that the suffering truth of this life is the origin truth of the previous life.

In order to explain its result. Second, distinguishing from the way of entering, there is the correct sign that pervades the similar side, and the correct sign that enters in two ways. There are two refutations and establishments regarding this. The first view is: Some people think that the definitions of these two are in order: Whatever is the correct sign of that aspect, is the argument that pervades the dharma to be established in that aspect, and does not pervade. In the first case, taking the common characteristic as the subject, it is said: The measurable exists, because it is something to be measured. When stated in this way, that subject becomes what is referred to in that aspect. Because that is its definition. The latter is established, because the measurable is pervaded by what should be measured. If asserting the root, then taking the rabbit horn as the subject, it is said: It should be measured, because the measurable exists. In the second case, taking the pot as the subject, it is said: There is a cause of things, because it is a thing. When stated in this way, that subject becomes the last branch of that aspect. Because that is what is referred to. It cannot be asserted in this way, because the cause of things is pervaded by things. The second view is: The definitions of these two are in order: Whatever is the correct sign, is the opponent who uses it as an argument, in accordance with all similar sides, determining and not determining the way of establishing. In the first case, there are two kinds of signs: self-nature and non-apprehension. The first case is, for example: Sound is the subject, is impermanent, because it is produced. The second case is, for example: The pot as the basis of appearance not seen by valid cognition is the subject, the pot does not exist, because the pot is not seen by valid cognition. The latter has three arguments: effect, self-nature, and non-apprehension. The first case is, for example: Where there is smoke is the subject, there is fire, because there is smoke. The second case is, for example: Conch sound is the subject, is impermanent, because it is produced by effort. The third case is, for example: On the sea surface on a night without fire is the subject, there is no smoke, because there is no fire. Third, distinguishing from the perspective of the establisher, there are three kinds of correct signs: thing-power entering, trustworthy, and fame. The first case is the three signs of effect, self-nature, and non-apprehension mentioned earlier. Because the argument of thing-power is mainly explained in the chapter on self-interest, the key is to explain only the classification of these three. The latter two are for the benefit of others
