In the discussions and the Commentary on Valid Cognition, it is said that the effect of the sign and the possessor of the sign are the cause of inference, and Lord (Aryadeva) said that the basis of the sign is the mind that holds smoke and living beings, which is the mind that holds the sign, and Shasha said that the object of the sign is subsequent to direct perception, and Nyisbas said that the knowledge of the sign is not the object of things, and in the previously quoted Commentary on the Treasure of Reasoning, it is said that we believe that the holder of the sign arises from the nature of smoke and made, etc., which are established as signs, but we do not believe that it arises from the determination of the three characteristics of the sign. The meaning of these words rests on this very system, which seems to be unseen by others before. In short, if you know that the mind that holds the sign is the mind that holds the subject, and the determination of the three characteristics is the mind that holds the property, then this system will be self-liberated. Second, regarding the definition, the Treasure of Reasoning says: The definition of the sign is exclusion of others. That is to say, when made is used as a sign to prove that sound is impermanent, which is the true sign, self-character or sound-meaning? In the face of the conceptual mind that holds made as the true sign that proves that sound is impermanent, made alone, without distinguishing between sound-meaning and self-character, is the true sign, because it does not hold sound-meaning as the true sign, nor does it hold self-character as the true sign, but only holds made as the true sign. When the subsequent conceptual mind distinguishes them separately, self-character is not the true sign, because it cannot directly affirm or negate self-character. Sound-meaning is the true sign, because the made that appeared to the previous conceptual mind is the true sign, because it does not go beyond sound-meaning. Therefore, in the face of the conceptual mind that holds made as the true sign that proves that sound is impermanent, the made that appears is the exclusion of others, so the exclusion of others is the true sign. Here, regarding the existence or non-existence of the true sign in that regard, and whether it is pervasive that if the base is established, it is the true sign, and whether something like made is the true sign regardless of the arrangement, etc., because it seems that it is not useful for explaining the meaning of the scriptures, it is not written, and those that are now dependent are explained elsewhere. Third, regarding the detailed classification of the signified, the Treasure of Reasoning says: Possessing that nature,

It becomes multiple. Dharmakirti, through the gate of combination, determined them to be three. Thus, from the gate of objects, there are five divisions, and from the gate of combination, there is one, making six in total. However, if divided from the gate of including all types of reasoning, there are ten, namely, from the gate of combination, the gate of the manner of entering, the gate of establishment, the gate of the manner of establishing, the gate of the dharma to be established, the gate of relation, the gate of what should be established, the gate of the manner of what should be established, the gate of the opponent, and the gate of the manner of expression. First, from the gate of combination, the three reasons of effect, nature, and non-apprehension are included. All negating reasons ultimately include the apprehendable non-apprehension reason, so it can be established on a single example. The two establishing reasons need to be established on separate examples. Regarding this, in the Commentary on Valid Cognition, starting from the non-apprehension reason, the detailed explanation of pseudo-reasons is discussed at the end, so the reasons of effect and nature are discussed first. In the Ascertainment of Valid Cognition, starting from the reasons of effect and nature, the relation between dharma and reason is discussed at the beginning of establishment, so the non-apprehension reason is discussed first. In the Jewel of Reasoning, the order also appears in this way. Among them, first, the correct non-apprehension reason has a definition and two divisions. The first has two aspects, negation and affirmation. The first is that some say that a correct reason of that kind, if it is taken as the dharma to be established of that kind, then it is necessarily a negation. Some say that, similar to others, adding the actually taken dharma to be established and the merely spoken dharma to be established makes three. The first is that, subject, what is made. If your reason is taken as the dharma to be established for establishing that sound is impermanent, then it is necessarily a negation, because you are the correct non-apprehension reason of that kind. If you accept, subject, impermanence. It should be so, because it is the indirect dharma to be established of that kind. The second and third, is that establishing non-apprehension reason considered a half-break or an actual contradiction? If not considered, subject, what is made. It should be the correct non-apprehension reason of that kind, because that is the definition. The first reason should be so, establishing that sound is impermanent.
