Therefore, it is easy to refute. Some people think that the basis of the refutation method, the dharma, should not exist in the contradictory things related to it. Because this is the refutation method related to it. Answer: Not pervasive. Because to determine the refutation method, it is necessary to determine that the refutation method as the reason does not exist in the contradictory things, but it is not necessary to determine that the refutation method does not exist in the contradictory things. Second, regarding how it becomes the aspect of definition, there are three types: refutation, establishment, and abandonment. First, some people think that even if the three aspects are uncertain, the correct reason that is only possibly certain can be established, which is unreasonable. Because possible certainty is uncertainty, it is doubt. If doubtful smoke, etc. are presented, it is not established. As it says in the Commentary on Valid Cognition, "If there is doubt about oneself or one's basis, then the reason is not established. For example, in order to prove fire, the phenomena of doubting things such as steam gather together." It also says, "Like a lamp illuminating form, it is not understood through its own essence." It also says, "If what depends on pervasion or dharma is uncertain, then it cannot understand its own nature." It also says, "There is no certainty for the certain reason, so it will become doubt." It also says, "The three aspects are not established, doubt arises, it is not the proof of the wise." Therefore. Second, mere possible certainty also exists in the self-character of things, so it is impossible to become a knower uncertainly. Just as it is not said that root consciousness can grasp the object of sound, the sound of reason is not said to be the knower, but the knower. Considering this, it says in the Sutra on Valid Cognition, "The thing to be inferred and the things similar to it, non-existence in existence and non-existence, is certainty." Its meaning is explained in the Commentary on Valid Cognition, "The certainty mentioned at the end should observe all three aspects." Therefore. Third, in the Auto-commentary on the Treasury of Reasoning, abandoning the non-discrimination of certainty, abandoning what does not conform to the dharma of things, and abandoning being too excessive, there are three types. The latter also has five types, the second of which is said like this: Second, it is too excessive that the grasping of reason does not arise from reason, because before the three aspects are uncertain, it is not a reason, so the grasping of reason arises from it, it will become the grasping of reason arising from something that is not a reason. If you admit it, then like this, whatever a thing is like, it is the cause of the mind of that kind of reason, from that

Now, if someone asks, does this contradict the statement, "The intelligence of the characterized that is definitely produced from things"? We believe that the nature of smoke and actions, etc., which are to be posited as reasons, will generate attachment to the reason, but we do not believe that the determination of the three aspects of the characteristic of the reason will generate attachment to the reason. Here, in analyzing the limits of the mind that clings to the reason, there are three ways: the way explained in the scriptures and commentaries, the way asserted by the previous scholars, and the determination of the reasonable aspect. The first is, in the Pramāṇasūtra, it says, "Inference arises from following inference." The inference mentioned here, the mind that clings to the reason, which is explained by the wisdom of the Victorious One (རྒྱལ་དབང་), is said to be a false perception. In its auto-commentary, it says, "The knowledge of the reason is not the direct cause of inference, because there is an interval of memory." Therefore, it is said in the scripture that the characterized is not the direct cause of inference. Here, from "How things exist" to "Emptiness is not a deceiver," it is also said that the characterized is the cause of inference, and that the reason and what is to be proven will not deceive in sequence. Its establishment of the reasonable aspect is that there are two ways to cling to the reason without error: one is to cling to pervasion in general without relying on the subject; the other is when clinging to the dharma of the subject, the memory that is not mistaken after clinging. If one does not remember what is not mistaken after clinging, then one cannot prove what is to be proven. For example, after seeing smoke, one will think that it is entirely produced by fire, so here it is also produced by fire. Whatever is entirely produced by fire, this is the knowledge of the reason; here it is also produced by fire, the memory that is not mistaken about the dharma to be proven, this is the realization of the hidden meaning. Moreover, clinging to pervasion in general is prior. Therefore, it is said that the knowledge of the reason is the cause of knowing the characterized, and clinging to what is not mistaken in general is a branch of the memory that is not mistaken about the subject, that is its meaning. The Ornament Maker (རྒྱན་མཛད་པ) said: Even if one clings to the reason with the intelligence of the characterized, if another intelligence of clinging to the reason is needed, then the clinging to the reason will become endless, therefore refuting the former, and oneself
