From one to six, it is wrong to think that other date calculations are correct. That's what it means. Some people think that these three modes are the definition of a valid reason, and for these three modes, the definition of the property of the subject is: the reason that is consistent with the way of establishing that it pervades only what is to be known; the definition of the mode of concomitance is: the reason that is consistent with the way of establishing that it pervades only the similar side; the definition of the mode of negation is: the reason that is consistent with the way of establishing that it does not exist on the dissimilar side. The necessity of stating that the knowable subject exists, exists only in it, and exists in both of them is in order to respectively preclude reasons that are defective in the sense that they generally do not exist at all in the knowable subject, and that even if they exist, they are not established in all of them, and reasons that are defective in wisdom because it is not certain that they exist in those. The necessity of stating that the similar side exists, exists only in it, and is certain to exist in both of them is in order to respectively preclude reasons that are defective in the sense that they do not exist in the similar side, and that even if they exist, they also exist in the dissimilar side, and reasons that are defective in wisdom because it is not certain that they exist in those two. The necessity of stating that the dissimilar side does not exist, exists only in it, and is certain is in order to respectively preclude reasons that are defective in the sense that they exist as pervasive in the dissimilar side, and that even if they do not exist as pervasive, they still exist in the dissimilar side, and reasons that are defective in wisdom because it is not certain that they do not exist in it. Then, what is the necessity of saying "only" later, after not saying it before? If it is said that it does not exist only on the dissimilar side, then the reverse mode is not established for what exists only on the dissimilar side, and the doubt of whether the reverse mode is established for what exists on both the similar and dissimilar sides is to eliminate. These are the tenets of the school that the three modes are of the same essence. For these three modes are not the definition of a valid reason, because the part that pervades the subject is called a reason, and although that is acceptable, it is because the part that pervades the subject is a reason, and in the Nyāyabindu it says: "The reason with three modes exists in what is to be inferred, and exists in the similar side."

And, it is certain that it does not exist in the dissimilar side, therefore, the reason with these three aspects is the definition of a correct reason. The rest identify the nature of each of the three aspects separately. Because "with reasoning, also in the three aspects," it is said that reasoning is the basis for having the three aspects, but it is not said to be the three aspects themselves. In the Pramāṇasūtra, it is said, "Meaning is seen from the reason with three aspects," etc., saying that the reason with three aspects is the definition of a correct reason, but there is no reliable scripture that says that these three aspects are the definition of a correct reason. Some people think that the nature of the three aspects is different, and that having the three aspects is not the definition of a correct reason. If the reason is correct, then the three aspects must be determined by the power of valid cognition. If the three aspects are complete, then it is not pervasive to determine the three aspects by the power of valid cognition. Therefore, they say that the reason determined by the power of valid cognition is the definition of a correct reason. This is unreasonable, because just seeing it in the similar side and not seeing it in the dissimilar side establishes the two aspects of concomitance and counter-concomitance. If the two aspects of concomitance and counter-concomitance are established, then it is not pervasive to determine these two aspects by the power of valid cognition. The second is divided into the actual definition and the nature of each of the three aspects. The first is that there is no difference in which of the following is taken as the definition: the reason with three aspects, the reason with three aspects, the reason that pervades the property of the subject, and the reason that establishes the property of the subject and determines the relationship. In the Pramāṇasūtra, it is said, "From the reason with three aspects," and in the Nyāyabindu, it is said, "The reason with three aspects is," and here it says, "The reason that pervades the property of the subject," and in the Rigs gter, it is said, "The property of the subject is established and the relationship is determined, the definition of the reason is without fault," and in the autocommentary, it is said, "Therefore, the property of the subject pervades it, and the property of the subject, and the relationship is established, and the determination of the three aspects, these are all one meaning," because it is said so. The meaning of these is that on the basis of a reason that is established as the knowable to be proven, on top of that, if all three aspects are established, then it becomes a correct reason, and if any one is not established, then it becomes a fallacious reason.
