The reason for saying this is to avoid errors and syntactic defects, so as to easily understand the first characteristic. Third, to avoid the addition being the same as the non-addition. If saying "dharma of the subject" is prone to error, is saying "dharma of the paksha" also prone to error? Answer: They are not the same. Although the word "paksha" is a general term, when used with the word "dharma," it only refers to the subject to be known; while the word "subject" when used with the word "dharma," does not necessarily only refer to the subject to be known. For example, although the words "hand" and "head" are both general terms, there is a difference in whether they refer to an elephant when used with the word "having." Similarly, the Auto-commentary of the Four and a Half Thousand Verses also says: "The paksha is the subject, because it is a general addition to the limb." If it is said that it should not be added because it is not necessary, the answer is: No. In order to negate all dharmas of the subject, because it is a part of it, in order to understand that it is an addable, knowable subject. Therefore, things like "can be grasped by mind and eyes" etc. are avoided. If it is said that saying "dharma" is "subject," and in the case where the basis is not established, the power of mentioning "subject" is that, because it is close, it will be considered the subject to be proven, the answer is: No. Because the example's subject is also close. Because the phrase "its part is pervasive" has proven that the example's subject exists. If it is said that saying "subject" will be considered the subject to be proven, the answer is: Because it is added on to what is already established, it is necessary to say, just as "only exists in similarities" has proven that the reason is reversed in dissimilarities, but it is like saying non-existence to something that does not exist. Therefore, in order to completely avoid the situation where the meaning is understood by implication but is difficult to understand, "paksha" is said. The Drop of Reasoning says: "Therefore, although the meaning is understood by implication, just because the addition and the letters are the same, the difficult-to-prove situation is completely avoided." Summarizing these meanings, the Jewel of Reasoning says: "If you say subject, it will cause error.

exists. If all aspects are restricted, it will take a long time. If the real name is spoken, the combination will be damaged. In order to be easily understood, it is called "aspect". Thus it is said. The third is what harms the real: Dharma and Dharmī are not the characteristics of aspects, because Dharmī is already established when the aspect-dharma is established, and Dharma is already established when pervasion is established, so the meaning of the entity is incomplete. The second is that the difference in the meaning of the present situation must be determined: the characteristic of the knowable Dharmī is that, on any Dharmī, the measure of the probandum-dharma that has no establishment or exclusion is taken, and the characteristic of the probandum-Dharmī and the subject of dispute-Dharmī are also the same. That is to say, the Svārthānumāna-hetu is taken as the measure by the opponent, and the Parārthānumāna-hetu is taken as the measure by the opponent in turn. The second is to explain the two aspects of the basis of dependence for following and reversing, there are five points: the way of explaining from the scriptures, the way of explaining by the wise, negating the unreasonable, determining the reasonable side, and eliminating disputes. The first point is: In the Pramāṇavārttika and the Hetubindu, it is said: "The similar aspect is the same in meaning as the common characteristic to be proven. The absence of it is the dissimilar aspect." And because of the definite holding of "the same as it", if it is said that it does not exist in other dharmas, it is not, because it is for the sake of eliminating others. Because the definite holding of the collection that establishes existence in it, it is to distinguish others, for example: "At first, he himself gave birth to two sons, Nara and Vitṛṣṇa are sons." Saying this shows that the two aspects are not really contradictory. It also says: "Aspect-dharma similar aspect exists or not." Among them, when measuring that sound is permanent, the two aspects are universally explained. And "Whatever is the dissimilar aspect to be proven." etc., by returning from the dissimilar aspect, it is explained that it exists in the similar aspect, thus showing that the two aspects are really contradictory. The second point is: the way in which the wise men of the past determined all knowables as two aspects, the elimination of disputes based on substance and negation, and the meaning established by it, these three points. The first point is: all knowables are determined as two aspects of one pervasion, that is, one pervasion of
