If it is established, then the root consciousness is an object-possessor, because there is a condition of the objective referent other than the root consciousness and the mind, because without it, it will not arise, and it is the common basis for occasional arising. The second question is divided into two: the actual answer and the establishment of the three causes of the Mind-Only School. First, there is no fault, because the previously appearing root consciousness is not necessarily produced when all external objects are present, but is necessarily produced when the conditions for awakening the habit of the previous appearance are all present. If they are the same, then immediately. And so on, this is explained. Second, it is divided into two views: the view of the Asanga brothers and the view of Dignāga and Dharmakīrti, father and son. The first, Asanga, believes that on the basis of the ālaya-vijñāna, there are two kinds of habits, common habits and uncommon habits. The first matures and produces the appearance of the five objects such as form, and the second matures and produces the appearance of the sense organs such as the eye. The first is the objective referent condition, and the latter is the dominant condition. Therefore, the objective referent condition and the dominant condition are established on the appearance of the ālaya-vijñāna, and there is no objective referent condition and dominant condition that are external objects. Vasubandhu said: In order to make the aggregates such as form arise, it is said according to his intention in order to subdue sentient beings, like an emanation being. Thus, after determining that the aggregates, realms, and sources that are external objects are provisional, from one's own seed, whatever appearance of consciousness arises, the Able One said that it and its place of birth are two kinds. It means that from the conditions for awakening the habits of the appearance of objects being complete, the consciousness that appears as an object arises, which is the objective referent condition, and from the conditions for awakening the habits of the appearance of the sense organs being complete, the consciousness that appears as a sense organ arises, which is the dominant condition. Therefore, there is no objective referent condition and dominant condition that are different in substance from consciousness. Both Asanga brothers believe that the immediately preceding condition is the immediate cessation of the six consciousnesses. The meaning of immediate cessation is that although the objective referent condition and the dominant condition exist in the self-time of the root consciousness, if it is an immediately preceding condition, then the root consciousness needs to cease in its self-time, which is the meaning of the immediately preceding condition, and it is not considered that cessation is the immediately preceding condition. So, the six co-arisen

When the six consciousnesses arise, the immediately preceding moment of the six consciousnesses having just ceased can serve as the immediately preceding condition. However, in the states of the two samadhis without mind, as well as sleep and fainting, how can it serve as the immediately preceding condition? In that case, the alaya-consciousness serves as the immediately preceding condition for the six consciousnesses. Later, when the six consciousnesses arise normally, each preceding moment serves as the immediately preceding condition for each succeeding moment. Second, in the system of Dignāga and Dharmakīrti, there are three conditions. First, regarding the objective condition, there are two aspects: refuting other systems and establishing one's own system. First is the refutation of other systems. The *Ālambanaparīkṣā* states: "Although the cause of sense consciousness is subtle atoms, since they are invisible, their object is not subtle atoms, like the senses. Whatever appears is not as it is, unreal like the two moons. Therefore, neither internal nor external are accepted as objects of mind." This means that some Śrāvakavādins believe that external objects are the objective condition of sense consciousness. Regarding this, neither subtle atoms nor the gross objects composed of many subtle atoms can serve as the objective condition. First, subtle atoms cannot serve as the objective condition because their form is invisible, just like the senses, which are also material in your system. Second, gross objects cannot serve as the objective condition because they are not real, like the two moons that appear in deluded sense consciousness. Therefore, neither of the two types of external objects possesses the characteristics of an objective condition, because the former lacks the meaning of an object, and the latter lacks the meaning of a condition. Second, regarding one's own system, there are two types: the appearing objective condition and the functional objective condition. First, regarding the appearing objective condition, the *Ālambanaparīkṣā* states: "The nature of inner consciousness, which appears as external, is the object, because it is the nature of consciousness, and also because it is the nature of a condition." This means that in reality, consciousness is of its own nature, but in appearance, it appears to sense consciousness as being distant from external objects. This is considered the objective condition. The reason it is called an object is that the definitive cognition produced by sense consciousness regards it as real. The reason it is called a condition is that sense consciousness follows it without error, being completely in accordance.
