Regarding the detailed explanation, there are three points: how it is explained in the Sutra, how it is elaborated in the commentary, and the determination of the meaning of these. The first point is: In the Sutra, it says: When the external object alone is taken as the object to be measured, then, this appearance in the object, the valid cognition measures it. As the aspects of the object, such as white and non-white, appear in consciousness, then it measures that and its own nature together with the object. Thus, as the various cognitions that perceive various aspects are accepted, so too are valid cognition and the object to be measured established, because all phenomena are devoid of action. Its meaning is: Or self-awareness is the result. By the phrase "self-awareness is the result," the valid cognition of consciousness is jointly declared as the result. By the phrase "when..." etc., the external object is declared as the object to be measured. The phrase "this appearance in the object, the valid cognition" is declared by the root commentary as the apprehended aspect being the valid cognition. The phrase "measures it" and the commentary "it measures that and its own nature together with the object" etc., explain the reason why the apprehended aspect is valid cognition. The phrase "because all phenomena are devoid of action," if analyzed directly, explains that the external object has no function of consciousness, thereby indirectly explaining that self-awareness is the result. The second point is: Even if the external object exists, etc., twelve verses. Among them, what explains the meaning of "when the external object alone is taken as the object to be measured" and "or self-awareness is the result" is: Even if the external object exists, etc., five verses. What explains the meaning of "this appearance in the object" etc. is: At that time, this appearance of the object, etc., four and a half verses. What refutes this is: Because of the nature of establishing the object, etc., two and a half verses. What explains the meaning of "thus, various aspects" etc. is: Similar to that or different is also acceptable, etc., one verse. What explains the meaning of "because all phenomena are devoid of action" is: Like some aspects, etc., one verse. Therefore, these texts can be summarized into three key points: the reason for establishing self-awareness as the result on the external object to be measured, the reason for establishing the apprehended aspect as the valid cognition on the self-awareness result.

Reason. The reason for establishing the apprehended aspect as a valid cognition is to regard external objects as the objects to be measured. Firstly, when external objects are taken as the objects to be measured, the appearance that appears to oneself is the consciousness, not the actual knowing of external objects. If it were known, then the external object would become the common basis for various beauties and non-beauties. Therefore, "external objects" etc. is one verse. Showing the harm to their assertion is "If it is promised" etc. are three verses. For that reason, when external objects are taken as the objects to be measured, it should also be considered as the result of self-awareness, that is, "Therefore, for external objects to be measured" etc. is one verse. Secondly, showing that the apprehended aspect is also a valid cognition at that time, that is, "At that time, this appearance of meaning" etc. is one verse. The reason for this is that the valid cognition must establish the understanding of external objects in name, but the apprehended aspect has this ability, and the grasping aspect does not have this ability, that is, "Why is the self of external objects" etc. are three and a half verses. Among them, preventing the two, valid cognition and result, from becoming different places, and preventing the contradiction with the previous statement that the meaning consciousness is the result, are "Because the meaning is established as its own nature" etc., and "When examining one's own nature" etc. Thirdly, if one does not actually know external objects, but only knows the appearance of external objects, why should one regard external objects as the objects to be measured? Whether the external object is similar to it, according to the Sautrāntika school, or similar to the habit, according to the Yogācāra school, in name, the cause of the appearance of external objects to the sense consciousness is the external object itself in name, so the external object is regarded as the object to be measured, that is, "Similar to it or similar to others" etc. is one verse. According to the former, it is the cause of generating the appearance, and according to the latter, it is the meaning of the objective condition of appearance. Then, if you examine it, will the sense consciousness not be able to know the meaning? Admit it. According to the Sautrāntika school, the two are cause and effect, so when one is real, the other is not real. According to the Yogācāra school, the external object itself is not established, that is, "How like some appearances" etc. is one verse. The god said: Because the meaning consciousness is its own nature. The complete measurement result has been fully shown above, until here
