Some say that if analyzed, the external object is not established, because if analyzed, the external object is not established by valid cognition. The reason is accepted. Furthermore, if analyzed, there is no valid cognition that measures the external object, because if analyzed, the external object is not understood by valid cognition. This cannot be accepted, because if analyzed, the external object is proven to be true. If it is said like that, then if analyzed, smoke is not established, because if analyzed, smoke is not proven to be the fruit of fire. The pervasion is accepted. The reason is established, because if analyzed, smoke does not depend on fire, because if analyzed, smoke has already arisen from fire. Likewise, it is also because it is established from its own cause. Even if the fruit does not depend on the cause, conceptual thought connects them. It is said like that. Furthermore, if analyzed, smoke that arises from fire is not established, because if analyzed, smoke does not arise from fire. This cannot be accepted, because this and the valid cognition that measures the external object are the same in whether or not they are truly established. Therefore, according to the Sautrantika school, if analyzed, when sense consciousness grasps the external object, if the external object is made the object of measurement, then if analyzed, consciousness becomes the fruit consciousness, so it will contradict the main teachings of the three, valid cognition, fruit, and person. I say that the world is the cause of grasping form. It is said like that, and when analyzing one's own nature, it is said that self-awareness is the fruit. Following these views, relying on worldly terms, sense consciousness grasps the external object, and the Sautrantika's own view, these two views, when analyzed by reasoning, consciousness grasps its own nature, these two views I speak of. Secondly, the valid cognition and fruit of the Mind-Only school have three aspects: how it is explained in the sutras, how it is taught in the commentaries, and how to ascertain the meaning of these. The first is: In the sutra, it says: Or self-awareness is the fruit. And, in its commentary, it says: Consciousness arises with two appearances, namely its own appearance and the appearance of the object. Of these two appearances, self-awareness is the fruit. When analyzing this, the apprehended aspect is made the object of measurement, thereby explaining that self-awareness is the fruit. Also, from its nature, meaning is determined. And, in its commentary, it says: When consciousness together with the object is the meaning, from the self-awareness that is in accordance with it, the desired or undesired meaning will be understood. This shows that in conventional terms, the external object is made the object of measurement, thereby producing fruit consciousness.

It has been shown. The second part is divided into two aspects: Analytically, it is to explain the meaning of the root text and commentary that shows self-awareness as the result; from the perspective of convention, it is to explain the meaning of the root text and commentary that shows the understanding of meaning as the result. The first part includes: by preventing the external object that appears to the sense consciousness in its own time from being the result, showing self-awareness as the result; and by preventing the external object that appears to the sense consciousness in its own time from being the external object, showing self-awareness as the result. In the first part, by asking and preventing the proof that the understanding of meaning is the result, it is "What is the understanding of meaning?" and so on, six verses. Therefore, it is established that the grasper and the grasped are not different entities, that is, "Its experience is itself," and so on, two verses. In order to eliminate the dispute against this, first eliminate the contradiction with fame, that is, "Its object is blue, etc.," and so on, one verse. Eliminating the contradiction with experience is "How is it its own nature?" and so on, two verses. Eliminating the contradiction with seeing is "When the grasper and the grasped are distinguished," and so on, one and a half verses. Since the grasper and the grasped are not different entities, it is established that self-awareness is the result, that is, "Therefore," and so on, two words. In short, up to this point, the Sautrantikas prevent the appearance of the grasped aspect in the sense consciousness in its own time, although it is not an external object, but because the external object imposes its own aspect, it is considered to be the object of other consciousnesses, and because there is no other object of knowledge, it shows self-awareness as the result. Now is the second part, by preventing the external object that appears to the sense consciousness in its own time, to establish self-awareness as the result. First, by asking and preventing the proof of the external object, it is "If the external is experienced," and so on, three verses. In order to eliminate the dispute against this, it is "Here some are of some," and so on, one verse. Therefore, the appearance is one mind, which is the grasped aspect that appears in two ways, but not the external object, thus establishing self-awareness as the result, that is, "Therefore, one has two ways," and so on, one verse. In short, these prevent the Vaibhashikas from thinking that the appearance itself that appears to the sense consciousness in its own time is the external object, thus showing that it itself is the grasped aspect, so it is self-awareness as the result. Or, it is self-awareness as the result. In this way, in the root text and commentary, the two divisions of the Hearers are separately prevented, thus establishing self-awareness as the result.
