Because there is no difference. The second is: the basis for the activity of the object-possessing valid cognition, the actual activity, the reason for the activity arising, that is, the three actions on the valid cognition, namely what is to be done, what can be done, and doing, are established as the three: valid cognition, result, and measurement. Among them, what is to be measured is the basis for the activity arising, such as blue. The result is the actual activity, such as the cognition of blue. The valid cognition is the reason for the activity arising, such as the appearance of blue arising. Therefore, the two, valid cognition and result, are the result of separate establishment, but not the cause and effect of what is produced and what produces. As the auto-commentary of the Sutra says: "For this, like the outsiders, there is no result that has become another thing from valid cognition." Here also it says: "That depends on the separate establishment, all parts, become what is to be proven, what proves." The Jewel of Reasoning says: "Therefore, for the two, cause and effect of separate establishment, it is considered valid cognition and result." Here, valid cognition and what proves, as well as action, and characteristic, and what separately establishes, these are the same in meaning but different in name. Result and what is to be proven, as well as what is to be done, and what is to be signified, and what is separately established, these are the same in meaning but different in name. Action mainly refers to what is to be measured, and sometimes it also refers to what is to be done, because the action in "all actions are what proves" refers to what is to be done. Therefore, here what is to be measured has two: thing and knowledge, the result has two: thing-awareness and self-awareness, valid cognition is determined to be two: apprehended aspect and apprehending aspect. When the apprehending aspect is taken as valid cognition, the result is determined to be self-awareness, but when the apprehended aspect is taken as valid cognition, the result is not determined to be thing-awareness. When the apprehended aspect is taken as valid cognition to establish the knowledge of things, the result produces thing-awareness, and when establishing the knowledge of the aspect that appears directly to oneself, the result produces self-awareness. Why is the valid cognition and result of yogic direct perception not explained? These valid cognitions and results are in terms of the valid cognition of common parlance, like self-knowing and other-knowing. The third is, if the two, valid cognition and result, are not other entities, then will the two not become what is to be proven and what proves? There is no fault, in general, what is to be proven and what proves has what is to be proven and what proves as a sign, pro-

The establisher and the established of arising and what is arisen. There are three types of establisher and established in terms of establishment: If, as you wish, you consider arising and what is arisen, then non-otherness becomes a fault. However, here, since the intention is to establish, it not only does not become a fault, but becomes a virtue. The reason for this is that, in general, merely being any one of the three establishers is not the establisher of all that is to be established, but it is considered an establisher that can establish the result of what is to be established from any establisher. Therefore, here too, it is the same: the establisher is that which can establish the result, which is the measurement of what is to be known, from any establisher. That is, "Because it accomplishes the action," that is the meaning. The above is one verse. Second, there are four ways to separately establish the measure and the result: the measure and result of those who advocate realism, the measure and result of those who advocate idealism, showing self-awareness as the result after cutting off doubts about the measure and result of realism, and determining the measure and result of the nature of self-awareness after cutting off doubts about the measure and result of idealism. First, in three parts: how it is explained in the Sutra, how it is explained in the Commentary on Valid Cognition, and determining the meaning of these. First, in the Pramana Sutra it says: "For the sake of realizing what has an object, the result itself is the measure, it is not without function, it is designated as the measure." Also, in its auto-commentary it says: "Here, like the non-Buddhists, there is no result that is a different entity from the measure, but the consciousness that has become the result, arising with the aspect of an object, and having a function, taking that and designating it as the measure, it is not without function. For example, when the result arises in accordance with the cause, it is said to be holding the image of the cause, it is not without function, it is the same here." Second, the meaning of "Here, like the non-Buddhists, etc." is that here the measure and the result are not different entities, because the establisher that can establish the result from any establisher is considered to be the measure. That is, it is explained by one verse such as "Because it accomplishes the action." The meaning of "The consciousness that has become the result, etc." is that although there is no measure that is different from the result, it is established as the measure on the arising of the aspect of the object.
