I immediately said: The object of focus, all dharmas, is called the acting cause, which is the master. Thus it is said. Then, from which causes and conditions do things arise? Mind and mental factors arise from all four conditions. Samadhi arises from three conditions excluding the objective condition. Other things arise from the co-existent cause and the dominant condition. As stated in the Abhidharmakosha: Mind and mental factors arise from four conditions, two samadhis from three, and others from two. Secondly, here, for the direct cause of sense perception, it is certain that there are three conditions. As stated in the Pramāṇavārttika: Those such as pleasure, cannot arise without an object, because pleasures and so on that are related to the nature of the object do not arise without that collection. It is also not possible without the sense faculty, because those that are related to form and so on are not seen without the sense faculty that has that as its object, and it also arises when the sense faculty is undamaged and remains nearby. It is also not possible without attention, because even if both are gathered, it is absent in a mind that is defiled by sleep and so on. The arising of consciousness is only the collection of these causes. Here it is also said: That is also the sense faculty, the true object, and intelligence, or else attention turns to the previous one, in this collection of cause and effect, there is no other that has a connection. As it is said. Then, is it that you do not acknowledge the co-existent cause at all? It is not so, we acknowledge the three conditions themselves as the co-existent cause, because it always follows after it, whatever exists and benefits, that is the cause, because the meaning of cause is complete in the three conditions. Do the Vaibhāṣikas also not acknowledge a co-existent cause other than the three conditions? It is not so, the co-existent cause is acknowledged as the five causes other than the acting cause, the two causes of equal flow and universal cause are similar, it is possible to complete the immediate condition, but the two causes of simultaneous arising and association are simultaneous with the result, so it is impossible to become an immediate condition, and the ripening cause is a continuous cause, so it is not any of the three conditions. The meaning of the dominant condition is understood as the acting cause, and the meaning of the acting cause is...

Because it wants to abandon all dharmas other than itself. Third, some say that mistaken sense consciousness has no objective condition, because "it is measured by the wisdom of mind, and there is no complete establishment at all," and it is said that "hair appearance is meaningless." It can also be established by reason, because for it, from its own side, there is no cause for creating similar images. This is unreasonable, because the first scripture is when the conceptual mind is prevented from having an object of apprehension, and the second scripture only shows that it has no object of apprehension, but does not show that there is no objective condition. The reason for establishing reason is also unreasonable, although as an objective condition it must be the cause of creating an image, it is not necessarily the cause of creating a similar image from its own side. Therefore, mistaken sense consciousness has an objective condition, because the flame of a lamp is the objective condition of the sense consciousness that holds the fine roundness of the flame, because it is the direct cause of that sense consciousness, because it is the outer source that is the direct cause of that sense consciousness. This is pervasive, because it is said in the sutra that "only this collection of causes produces consciousness." It is the direct cause of that sense consciousness, because whatever is its cause, and there is no other dharma that separates between the two. The first is established, because it exists only with the flame. The sutra says, "Neither of the two is a cause." In short, the object of apprehension of non-deluded sense consciousness is generally the creator of images, and specifically the creator of similar images, so it is both the object of apprehension and the objective condition. The sense consciousness of one moon appearing as two moons is only the creator of images, but not the creator of similar images, so although it is the objective condition, it is not the object of apprehension, which is the difference. In addition, in general, among the object of the way of holding and the objective object of mistaken sense consciousness, the former does not exist, otherwise it would lead to the existence of white conch being yellow, one moon being two moons, etc. The latter exists, because there is an outer source that is the direct cause of that sense consciousness. So, what is the objective condition of the sense consciousness of hair falling out? Whatever appearance this consciousness depends on for its arising is that appearance itself, because its
