It becomes a number. Results, forms, appearances, and distinctions are categories of names. Among these, the main generality is considered to exist as an indivisible single entity. Secondly, similarly, Tibetans also believe that what pervades the clear appearances of trees such as rhododendrons and junipers is merely "tree," and what pervades all blues such as beryl is merely "blue," which exist in meaning and are also a single entity with their own appearances. From this, it can be inferred that all general appearances that have become objects are a single entity. That's what they say. The third has three aspects: refuting by the sign of the visible but unobserved, refuting by analysis, and refuting by extreme consequences. First, the clear appearance of a tree, the subject of debate, it follows that your generality, which is the same entity as you, does not exist, because if it did exist, it would have to be observed by the direct perception of the sense that grasps you, but it is not observed. Second, regarding refutation by analyzing the essence: Is the generality of tree the entity of rhododendron or not? If not, then it, the subject of debate, it follows that it is not the same entity as it, because it is not its entity. If it is, then juniper is not a tree, because the generality of tree is the entity of rhododendron. As it is said: Otherwise, separated from the object, it will not become an object, because this is different from this, therefore it is said. So it is said. Regarding refutation by analyzing the cause: Did the generality of tree arise from the cause of rhododendron or not? If it did not arise, then it, the subject of debate, it follows that it is not the same entity as it, because it did not arise from its cause. This is pervasive. Here it is also said: Different (results) arise from different causes. And in the Pramāṇaviniścaya it is said: If it is established, then it is not established, or, different causes are not reasonably its nature. So it is said. Regarding refutation by analyzing arising and ceasing: When rhododendron arises and ceases, does the generality of tree arise and cease or not? If it does not arise and cease, then it, the subject of debate, it follows that it is not the same entity as it, because when you arise and cease, it does not arise and cease. This is pervasive. In the auto-commentary it says: Therefore, all things that arise and cease simultaneously will be closely connected with all things. If it is not so, then it will not become one, or it is merely a different name, because it is said so after admitting the meaning. Because of this reason. If (the generality of tree) arises and ceases, then when rhododendron arises and ceases, it and

The individual trees of different places, the individual trees of different times, and the individual trees of different forms should be subject to arising and ceasing. Because the general tree, which is the same entity as those individuals, is subject to arising and ceasing. It pervades: if there is no difference, then they will arise and cease simultaneously. As it is said. The third, the extreme consequences, are three: having branches is not established, it should become a sense consciousness with concepts, and contradictory things should become one entity. First, if there is a general tree entity that pervades all individual trees, then if you admit that there is one entity with branches that pervades all branches such as the head, then how can you prevent it? If you say that this is not reasonable, because the reasoning such as "If the hands etc. there move, then everything..." will cause harm. Because contradictory dharmas such as moving and not moving, obscuring and not obscuring, changing and not changing are not allowed in one entity. Then, the general tree entity that pervades all individual trees should not exist. If it exists, then when the Shapa tree shakes, the general tree that is the same entity as the cedar should also shake; when the Shapa tree is obscured, the general tree that is the same entity as the cedar should also be obscured; when the Shapa tree is changed by paint, the general tree that is the same entity as the cedar should also be changed by paint, because there is such a fault. Second, the sense consciousness that apprehends the Shapa tree should take the general tree that is the same entity as the Shapa tree as its appearing object. Because it takes all dharmas that are the same entity as the Shapa tree as its appearing object. Because it is a direct perception that enters through inference. If you accept it as the root consciousness, then it should become a conceptual consciousness. Because it is a consciousness that knows the general as its appearing object. If you say that if you know the general of things as the appearing object, then it is pervasive that it is a conceptual consciousness, but if you know the general of kinds as the appearing object, then it is not pervasive that it is a conceptual consciousness. Then, wanting a general of kinds that is not included in the general of things is like wanting an ocean that is not included in water, which is the babble of someone who is intoxicated by the poison of a bad teacher. Because apart from the superimposition of mistaking appearance and conceptual consciousness as one, there is no general of kinds. Third, things with different entities such as blue and yellow, and all contradictory things such as light and darkness, should become one entity. Because there is a situation where they are the same entity as both blue and yellow, and the same entity as both light and darkness. The general entity that pervades many individuals is not established.
