The meaning of what is said in "na". It is said in Pramāṇavārttika: "Dharma is not what transfers from this life to the next to give happiness." This is an explanation of that. Second, the meaning of the proposition is to show that one has an idea. If contradictory words or contradictory promises are put on the same basis, like bad yogurt, one's own desire will naturally be destroyed. Third, therefore, a flawed statement will cause defeat in debate. That is, a statement with linguistic flaws itself becomes a slander against the inference of another's meaning. Fourth, refutation of fame is divided into two: First, the definition is: the contradiction that can be actually eliminated by merely making a proposition is established by the inference of fame. Second, determining its nature is divided into two: brief explanation and detailed explanation. First, all things are established as being able to be expressed by arbitrary words, because grammarians believe that there is a real connection between sound and meaning, which has been denied in the examination of the expresser and the expressed. And all sounds are applied according to the power of the intention to express, which has also been said in the context of refuting others. The second is divided into two: quoting the sutra and determining its meaning. First, for anything that is not common, there is no inference, and because of the meaning that contradicts the fame arising from sound, the refutation is also not a thesis. For example, that which has a rabbit is not the moon, because it exists. It is said like that. The second is divided into three: the first way of explaining, the second way of explaining, and examining the intention of these. The first is divided into two: refuting the establishment of others and stating one's own reasonableness. First, stating the former's view is: grammarians say that that which has a rabbit cannot be expressed by the word "moon" because it exists. Refuting it is divided into two: First, the reason for becoming uncommon is that this reason has no similar example, so it is uncommon. For example, anything that is established can be expressed by the word "moon". Therefore, if even the main reason, "existence," has no concomitance, then whatever other minor reason is established will become an uncommon one without concomitance, needless to say. Take "existence" as an example.

The result of speaking is also this. Second, contradiction occurs because the reason itself is contradictory, as it is pervaded by the fact that if it exists, it can be expressed by the word "moon." Therefore, the meaning of the first part of the scripture is to show the unique sign of expression, and the meaning of the latter part is to show contradiction. Second, there are two aspects to stating validity: the fame of being expressible and the identification of fame arising from sound. First, that which arises from the speculation of worldly customs, and can be expressed by arbitrary sounds, is called the fame of being expressible. As it is said in the scripture: "From the name, a person expresses that thing with the sound of fame." The expressible pervades all things, regardless of when, where, or how, whether or not it has been agreed upon beforehand, and whether or not it is commonly known. Because it exists in all things that can be expressed by sound, it is considered that the expressible is the common ground for establishing the reason. If only the possibility is established, but things like vases that were not previously called moons are referred to as moons in reliance on the word "moon," and this contradicts worldly conventions, then it is not contradictory. Just as things with the ability to cook are called cooking, and things that can be drunk are called drinking, it is merely giving a name to something that can be named. Second, there are two aspects to fame arising from sound. The first is to identify fame arising from sound: the previous fame of being expressible is again called fame arising from sound. The necessity of calling it this is that although the possibility of expressing with sound is established for all things, it depends on convention, and that convention is established by the intention to express, then fame is also established. This is to show that. Because it relies on sound, it is called arising from sound. In this way, the object established by fame, because it is inference, it is impossible for the object of inference not to be confused with contradiction, therefore its opposite is not the inexpressible aspect. There are three aspects to the second explanation. The first is to prove that the object of fame is different from inference: because there is no uncommon inference on anything. The meaning of what is said is that the moon with a rabbit, which is to be proven by expression, cannot be expressed by the word moon.
