Therefore, since there is no difference in being established as the proposition between that which is established by valid cognition (pramana) and that which is established by convention (mundane), it is included in the contradiction of the two, the subject and the predicate, mentioned earlier. Third, the determination of those reasons has two aspects: the determination of preventing other extremes and the determination of the power of those reasons. First, the number of reasons stated as signs is definitely four: the sign is not established as a property of the subject, and the sign is established. The first is like an apparent sign that is not established. The second has three aspects: definitely establishing the proposition, definitely preventing it, and not definitely establishing either. The first is the correct sign. The second is the contradictory sign. The third is the uncertain reason. Second, those four that are stated as signs also have four powers: the unestablished cannot even generate doubt on the subject, the uncertain generates doubt, the contradictory generates the certainty of the undesirable, and the correct generates the certainty of the desirable. As the crest jewel of the wise ones said, "Without power in the subject, it generates doubt, and it establishes the certainty of the undesirable and the desirable." Second, the proposition to be understood by this is, as the Treatise on Reasoning says, "Although explained here, it seems to be a treatise on distinctions, and due to the greatness of dependent arising, it should be explained in common elsewhere." The chapter on the analysis of inference for oneself, the tenth, is finished. Second, for inference for others, although the Sutra and the Commentary on Valid Cognition explain the speech for others, the proposition for others, and the reason for the subject of the subject in order, here, following the way the Treatise on Reasoning explains the proposition for others under the reason, there are two explanations: the explanation of the proposition to be understood, and the explanation of the inference for others that enables understanding. The first has three aspects: establishing the definition, identifying the instances of the definition, and stating the refutation of harm to the subject. First, the proposition, the object to be inferred, the object of the power of the sign, the subject, and the subject are all synonyms, so they are represented by one definition: what the opponent accepts as the proposition. Moreover, the first four parts of the definition of the Sutra are said to be included in the acceptance of the proposition as stated by the gate of reasoning, and it is said that everything that is not excluded from this will be transformed into correct and apparent by the distinction of all. Here is the power of the true proposition.

From my perspective, in terms of the distinction of characteristics, it is shown as five; in terms of complete elimination, it is established as one. Regarding these, there are three points, including refuting arguments. The first point is, as stated in the sutra: "Only the essence should be shown, the self-nature is desired and not eliminated." Thus, it is said to possess five qualities. For each of these, there are two aspects: the meaning and the determination of distinction. First, the meaning of essence is said to be that when taken as the object to be proven, it is not established by valid cognition and cannot be remembered. That which is established by valid cognition and can be remembered is that which is ascertained by the power of valid cognition, and now merely by uttering words, the meaning can be remembered. Because that will not become the object to be proven, something that is not like that is needed. Its distinction is that merely at the time of making the proposition, it cuts off what is already established by valid cognition in conventional terms. If it is already established by valid cognition in conventional terms, then a certainty guided by valid cognition, determined by the conventional distinction of the mind, is needed. What is already established by valid cognition in ultimate truth is not cut off, because the sound-apprehending direct perception in the continuum of the opponent has already established the impermanence of sound in ultimate truth. The meaning of desire is that even if it is not expressed in words, it is desired as the object to be proven. Its distinction is that the heretics do not express it to the opponent, and if the opponent does not actually hear it, they think it is not the object to be proven. For example, the eye and other phenomena are not aggregates, but act for the sake of others, because they are aggregates and accumulations, like bedding and cushions. When it is said like that, it cuts off the desire to establish that which acts for the benefit of the self-knowing person by applying the name of acting for others, which is not the intention of combining the means of cause. Its necessity is also to show that because acting for self-interest does not follow the example, the object to be proven is flawed. As the teacher आचार्य (Tibetan: slob dpon, Sanskrit Devanagari: आचार्य, Sanskrit Romanization: ācārya, Chinese literal meaning: teacher) Vasubandhu आचार्य वसुबन्धु (Tibetan: slob dpon dbyig gnyen, Sanskrit Devanagari: आचार्य वसुबन्धु, Sanskrit Romanization: ācārya vasubandhu, Chinese literal meaning: teacher Vasubandhu) said, "If it is said to be self and other, then it is not established." For the combination of those two methods, it also shows the fault of not following. The Tirthikas say that the pot is a phenomenon, and it is accompanied by either the person who is characterized by the body of a sentient being with clear consciousness or the pot, because it is not a lotus, like a wall. When it is arranged like that, being accompanied by the two of such a person is the desired object to be proven, and that does not follow the example of the wall.
