This is the content of the chapter. The first part is further divided into: What is the nature of the manifest cognition that cognizes, and what is the self-character of what is cognized? What is the reason for it to cognize it? The first thing to explain is: In the case of all four types of direct perception, the reasoning to prove the absence of conceptualization, and the content that explains not being misled by the meaning of seeming direct perception. The second thing to explain is: In the case of sense direct perception, proving that special atoms are the objective condition, and in the case of mental direct perception, explaining that the object apprehended by sense direct perception is the object apprehended in the second moment, and in the case of self-awareness, proving that what is experienced is knowledge, and in the case of yogic direct perception, proving that the subject of the object is the true meaning. The third thing to explain is the treatises on valid cognition and its result, namely: object-knowing direct perception cognizes the self-character of the object, because it arises as possessing its form. This is the treatise on the first valid cognition and its result. Self-awareness direct perception cognizes the self-character of consciousness, because it arises as the nature of experience. This is the treatise on the second valid cognition and its result. In the case of the first valid cognition and its result, the consciousness that establishes the cognition of the object by the reason of arising as possessing the form of the object is also the very appearance of itself. Consciousness is its own nature, so for the object it is the result of self-awareness. This is the treatise of "even if the external object exists," and so on. In the case of the second valid cognition and its result, the establishment of the three aspects of grasper, grasped, and awareness as the three aspects of valid cognition, result, and measurement, is only based on the appearance of the three aspects of grasper, grasped, and awareness as different in the face of confused mind, but in reality they are not different. This is the treatise of "mind and self are not different," and so on. The second part is divided into three points: the necessity of explaining valid cognition and its result, the actual valid cognition and its result that has necessity, and the necessity of ascertaining that very establishment. The first part is divided into two points: the necessity of exclusion and the necessity of total exclusion. The first point is further divided into: the common necessity and the individual necessity. The first is: to prevent outsiders from thinking that the agent and the action are different entities. The second is: to prevent some schools of our own and other schools from thinking that the sense consciousness does not have the appearance of the object, and that there is no self-awareness, so the treatises on the first and second valid cognition and its result are in that order. The second is

In order to realize the nature of validity by demonstrating the means of understanding the object to be measured by valid cognition. The second part is divided into two points: the general classification of valid cognition and its result, and the individual classification of valid cognition and its result. The first part is divided into three points: refuting the view that valid cognition and its result are different entities, establishing the view that they are not different entities, and dispelling the dispute about this. The first point is divided into two parts: stating the view and refuting it. The first part is: In the *Pramāṇavārttika*: "Therefore, seeing and the connection of the senses, and the intellects through distinctions." Thus, valid cognition is directly indicated. Similarly, in the *Tattvasaṃgraha*: "Seeing and ascertainment are the result of valid cognition, contact and understanding of the object are considered the result of valid cognition. Some say that the sense consciousness is the result of valid cognition." Thus, both valid cognition and its result are indicated. Furthermore, the non-Buddhists consider the agent and the object to be different entities, valid cognition and its result to be the producer and the produced, and they believe that the aspect of the object does not appear in the mind. These views are similar, but there are also differences. For the Sāṃkhyas, the non-conceptual consciousness that first observes the object is valid cognition, and the consciousness that subsequently arises and clings to the distinctions of real entities and genera is the result. The Vaiśeṣikas consider the contact of the senses and the object to be valid cognition, and the consciousness that subsequently arises and understands the object to be the result. Its meaning is that the sense that is connected with an object understands that object, and not another. The Naiyāyikas consider the consciousness that apprehends the distinctions of qualities, etc., to be valid cognition, and the consciousness that apprehends the qualified substance to be the result. The Vaibhāṣikas consider the corporeal sense to be valid cognition, and the consciousness that arises from it and understands the object to be the result. The second part is divided into general refutation and individual refutation. The first point is: These are not reasonable, because those who consider something to be valid cognition cannot establish what they consider to be the result, because the two are different entities. The second point is: The valid cognition and its result of the Sāṃkhyas are not reasonable, because it is not reasonable to observe the object without the aspect of the object appearing in the mind. The valid cognition and its result of the Vaiśeṣikas are also not reasonable, because there is no difference in whether the consciousness that measures qualities, etc., grasps qualities and substance or not, because they are the same in not manifesting the aspects of the two. Furthermore, are valid cognition and its result different objects or the same object?
