It is unreasonable for habituation to increase infinitely, just as habituation to jumping does not increase infinitely, heating water does not become infinitely hot, and the melting of gold also solidifies again. These are three types of arguments, and there are also three types of answers: Love and other emotions arise in the mind through habituation, etc.; love arises from its own seed, etc.; and whatever is done, it becomes reversible, etc. Secondly, although practicing these two may transform the mindstream into that nature, it does not become omniscient, because the number of knowable things is infinite. The answer to this is: establishing omniscience by knowing all the necessary meanings, and relying on that to establish omniscience by knowing the meanings of all knowable things. The first is: teaching those who do not understand, etc., these are four verses. The second is: In short, words of confidence are not deceptive, it is inference from generality. And, here, the truth of what should be accepted and what should be abandoned, etc. Correct direct perception has been explained. Secondly, regarding the erroneous aspect, which resembles direct perception, there are definition and classification. The first is: deluded consciousness. The second is divided into two: conceptual and non-conceptual apparent direct perception. The definition of the first is: conceptual deluded consciousness. The classification is, the author of the Sutra said: deluded and conventional consciousness, and inference arising from inference, memory and manifest desire, thus it is said. The deluded consciousness among the six mentioned is like perceiving mirages as water, and the mind perceiving a patterned rope as a snake. Conventional consciousness is like the concept that grasps the general characteristic of a cow. Inference and that which arises from inference are considered in terms of relying on the sign; the former is the mind that grasps the sign, and the latter is inference that possesses the sign, as stated by Gyalwang's wisdom. Memory and manifest desire are considered in terms of not relying on the sign; the former is the memory consciousness that recalls past events, and the latter is the mind that manifests the desire for future events. The way in which these are summarized into three by Palden Drakpa is that conventional consciousness is the concept that relies on symbols, and deluded consciousness is the concept that attaches meaning to other things.

It is said that the latter four are concepts with hidden meanings. The necessity of showing these as seeming valid cognitions is: the first two are considered by logicians to be sensory consciousness, and there is this wrong notion, so it is shown in order to eliminate it. The latter four are not valid cognitions, and even outsiders admit it. But in order to establish similar examples that the former two are not sensory consciousness, because in the established non-sensory causes, the two statements are considered wrong. Second, the definition is: non-conceptual erroneous consciousness. It is divided into: erroneous sensory consciousness and erroneous consciousness. The first, such as the sensory consciousness of the illusion of hair falling out, is indicated by "seeming valid cognition has ambiguity." The second, such as the consciousness of clear appearance in a dream, is indicated by "when sleeping or awake, any consciousness that appears clearly, that is non-conceptual." Seeming valid cognition has been explained. Third, discussing the result of valid cognition, it is divided into two: the way in which the result of valid cognition arises, and the classification of the result of valid cognition arising from it. First, according to the Sutra School: direct perception and inference are valid cognitions, having the nature of measuring the two. And, in this Commentary on Valid Cognition, "since there are two objects to be measured, there are also two valid cognitions." In the argument for determining valid cognition as two, if the object to be measured is determined as two, then what kind of action or result do these two valid cognitions do to these two objects to be measured, and for what reason can the determination of the number of objects to be measured establish the determination of the number of valid cognitions? These two valid cognitions perform the action of cognizing the object to be measured, direct perception cognizes in its own way, and inference cognizes in the way of other general characteristics of its own, and because its real object is set as a universal characteristic, therefore, the Commentary on Valid Cognition says: Also, what is the result of this valid cognition? It is cognizing the object to be measured. That is knowledge, and because that is the result, now what is valid cognition? From which, without interruption, the object to be measured is cognized, thereby accomplishing it. Direct perception cognizes in its own way, showing the chapter on direct perception. Inference cognizes in the way of other general characteristics of its own, showing self-benefit and other-benefit.
