There is fault. If it is said that sentient beings each have a stream of consciousness, then it contradicts what is said (in the scriptures). If asked this way, there is no fault. Because on top of the consciousness of mind, it looks inward, and there is only one stream of self-awareness. Because the five mental perceptions have no continuity, the self-awareness that experiences them also has no continuity. Second, the direct perception of the mind is valid cognition, because it grasps the knowledge of true meaning without error. However, like other direct perceptions, it cannot generate certainty by its own power, because it has no continuity. Therefore, in worldly terms, the term "valid cognition" is not used, just as, for example, although the object of sense consciousness is subtle particles, the term "object" is not used in terminology. The third has three points: recording the types of explanations, determining the reasonable aspects, and refuting the arguments against it. First, the Ornamentalist first believes that one moment of sense direct perception arises first, then one moment of mental direct perception arises, then the second moment of sense direct perception arises, and so on. The beginning is held by sense direct perception, and the end is concluded by mental direct perception. This is found in the sayings of the Kashmiri Pandit teacher and student. Master Dharmottara believes that at the end of the completion of the stream of sense direct perception, one moment of mental direct perception arises, but not before, because all the consciousness that clearly appears in the state of the eye engaging with form is eye consciousness. Otherwise, it would be difficult to find the definition of non-consciousness. The great Brahmin believes that only one moment of sense direct perception arises first, and after that, until the stream of sense direct perception is not exhausted, sense direct perception and mental direct perception arise in equal numbers, and the sense direct perception has a continuity arising from its own similar predecessor, and the mental direct perception does not arise from its own similar predecessor, but arises from the immediately preceding sense direct perception, so it has no continuity. Thus, among the three systems, the first view of the Ornamentalist is unreasonable, because at the moment of the first sense direct perception, the three conditions of the second sense direct perception are complete, and no one can prevent the real result from arising from the real cause, otherwise, compared to discrimination, what is experienced by sense consciousness should be experienceable.

If one wants them to arise alternately, then all the faults mentioned by the previous teachers, which would cause them not to appear continuously in their own situation, also apply to this. The view of Dharma Master is also unreasonable, because before the continuum of sense consciousness is completed, the three conditions for mental consciousness are complete, so there is no factor hindering the arising of mental consciousness. If it is thought that sense consciousness will cause an obstacle, that is also unreasonable, because it is impossible for an actual cause to hinder the arising of an actual effect. Otherwise, it will cause an obstacle even at the end of the continuum. Second, in the sutras it says: Monks, there are two ways in which consciousness manifests, namely, relying on the eye and the mind. Also, in the Pramana Sutra it says: The mind is also an object. And in its commentary it says: The mind also exists in the manner of focusing on form, etc., and experiencing it, it is merely without discrimination. And in its Commentary on the Compendium of Valid Cognition it says: Sense consciousness arises from the immediately preceding cause, and the mind also immediately grasps that object. The main point of these statements is to determine the manner of arising and to calculate the sequence of direct perception, etc. First, it does not arise simultaneously with or earlier than the first moment of sense direct perception, because if it is mental direct perception, then it must be said that its own immediately preceding cause arises from sense direct perception. Therefore, it arises after the first moment of sense direct perception. But it does not arise at the end of the continuum of sense direct perception, because the fault mentioned to Dharma Master exists. Even when it arises before the continuum is completed, it does not arise alternately like a garland, but simultaneously. The way is that the first moment of sense direct perception acts as the dominant condition and the immediately preceding cause, and at the same time the external object acts as the objective condition, and simultaneously with the second moment of sense direct perception, the first moment of mental direct perception arises as a separate entity. From then on, it arises in the same number before the continuum of sense direct perception is completed. Second, if we calculate the sequence of direct perception at this time, there will be three sequences, namely, looking outward there are two sequences of sense direct perception and mental direct perception, and looking inward there is one sequence of self-awareness direct perception that experiences the two. Because the objective condition has five sequences.
