Thus it is said. Having done so, in the second instance of measuring results, when the measurement result of sense consciousness is established, it is said to be self-cognizant fruit. In the root and commentary of the Treatise on Reasoning Treasury, it says: When dividing the manifest into four from the perspective of the object, it is necessary to acknowledge external objects. Therefore, if one can understand that it is only the view of the Sutra School, one will understand the key point. Therefore, if one can add the phrase "from the perspective of the object" to the beginning of those two verses of the root text of the Treatise on Reasoning Treasury, all the key points will be naturally liberated. Third, regarding the meaning of each individual basis, there are four. First, there are also four types of sense perception: the defining characteristic that signifies, the division of the basis, the valid cognition that ascertains the defining characteristic on the basis, and the meaning of the sound that is signified. The first is: Any other-knowing consciousness that is directly born from one's own dominant condition, the sense faculty that is corporeal, is non-conceptual and non-mistaken. Second, there are five from the perspective of the dominant condition, from the manifest of the eye sense faculty to the manifest of the body sense faculty. From the perspective of the objective condition, there are five from the sense perception that apprehends form to the sense perception that apprehends touch. From the perspective of the immediately preceding condition, there are two: self-knowing sense perception and other-knowing sense perception. Third, there are four: it is necessary to ascertain the meaning of being born from the sense faculty, the meaning of being other-knowing consciousness, the meaning of being non-conceptual, and the meaning of being non-mistaken. First, there are two: identifying the dominant condition, the sense faculty, and proving that it is born from it. The first is: In the self-commentary of the Treatise on Reasoning Treasury, it says: Although the sense faculty is not established in some philosophical schools, these corporeal supports have the ability to apprehend the five objects. The nature of the power of the co-emergent sense faculty, whatever it is, is also the sense faculty. Thus it is said. The meaning of that is that although things like the saffron flower, as it is known from the Abhidharma, and the power on the base of all, as it is known from the Mind-Only school, are not established here by reasoning, if other conditions are complete but a certain power possessed by these sense supports is not complete, sense consciousness will not arise. From the sign of that, it is proven that that power exists, and that power does not go beyond being either material or consciousness. Therefore, it is not reasonable for it to be consciousness, because if it were sense consciousness, it would have existed before sense consciousness arose, and it would become endless. If it were mental consciousness, then it would not need to rely on these sense supports. Therefore, being material is

It means acknowledging something that merely possesses form. Second, it is established as arising from it through the method of concomitance. For example, when the sense faculty's direct perception is uninterrupted and both the result, the sense consciousness, are not observed, first the uninterrupted sense faculty's direct perception is observed. Afterwards, the consciousness that apprehends the object is observed. Therefore, it is established as relying on some capacity that exists within it, like fire and smoke. Alternatively, it can also be established through negation. Second, both Sutra and Mind-Only schools agree that self-awareness is manifest in its own nature. However, the Sutra school posits it as sense perception because it must rely on external objects for its establishment, thus considering it as a consciousness that cognizes others. The Mind-Only school, on the other hand, considers it as self-awareness itself because it is not a valid cognition for objects other than itself. Therefore, since there is no other-cognition, it is considered that self-awareness is the result. It is like that. Third, in the Compendium on Valid Cognition it says: 'Through the combination of names, genera, etc., direct perception is free from conceptual thought.' This is merely stating a commitment. Although many reasons for establishing it are stated in this Commentary on Valid Cognition, the main reason is: 'Therefore, the mind born from the sense faculty, all are particularly object-oriented.' That is to say, sense perception is the subject, it is free from conceptual thought, because it is the consciousness in which the self-characteristic of external objects clearly appears. That is it. Fourth, sense perception is the subject, it is not deceptive, because it is not that deception is produced by the cause of deception, but rather it is the consciousness in which the self-characteristic of the object imparts a likeness of itself from its own side. Fourth, there are two aspects: generally indicating the sound and meaning, and from that, elaborating on the arrangement of the three conditions. First, although sense perception is the same in that it arises from all three conditions, why is it that the terms are not made from the perspective of the objective condition and the immediately preceding condition, but rather from the perspective of the dominant condition, generally making the term sense perception, and specifically making the terms eye consciousness, etc.? If you think this, (the answer is) because the sense faculty is a unique cause. It is sense consciousness, like the sound of a drum. It is said that because the dominant condition, the sense faculty, which is form, is a unique cause, it is easily understood through its term. The other two are the opposite of that. In the Compendium on Valid Cognition it says: 'Because it is a unique cause, its term is made by the sense faculty.' Because it is said like that. Second, there are three aspects, the first is
