Just like the three illusions that arise in the eye consciousness when perceiving the redness of a vase in dim light. It is unreasonable to say that the three self-characterized entities such as the vase behind the door are not direct perception, because these three self-characterized entities, from their own side, project an appearance similar to themselves onto these three consciousnesses. The second part is divided into two points: refuting the misidentification of inference as non-inference, and refuting the misidentification of non-inference as inference. The first point is that some people think that the mind that infers the existence of a jewel in a place from the sign of the light of the jewel is not a valid inference. If the jewel is taken as the reason, then there is no reason and no subject of the reason; if the light of the jewel is taken as the reason, then it is not established; if only the light is taken as the reason, then it is uncertain. If so, then it is impossible for the inference that infers the existence of a rice seed in a place from the sign of a rice sprout to be valid. If the rice seed is taken as the reason, then there is no reason and no subject of the reason; if the rice sprout is taken as the reason, then it is not established; if only the sprout is taken as the reason, then it is uncertain. The second point is that some people think that the mind that infers the existence of permanent fire in a place with smoke from the sign of smoke is a valid inference. Some people think that a place with limbs is the subject, and there is permanent fire, because there is real smoke. When writing like this, it is unreasonable to say that if one is wrong in speculation, one is not wrong in the result, because the three modes of proof are not established. If one thinks that even if permanent fire and real smoke are not established, there is no fault because only fire and only smoke are established, that is unreasonable. Because if the distinguishing characteristics of permanent fire and real smoke are not established, then the only fire and only smoke that are distinguished by them must also not be established. Third, explaining the valid means of determining the definition on the basis, there are three points: the way shown in the scriptures, the way explained by the wise, and identifying the reasonable side. The first point: if the definition of valid cognition is determined as non-deceptive consciousness, and the basis is determined as two types, direct perception and inference, then on top of these two bases, is the existence of non-deceptive consciousness determined from oneself or from others? If it is like the first case, then nothing is a characteristic, and there is no ignorance of the definition of non-valid cognition, so showing these two definitions in the scriptures will become meaningless. If it is like the second case, then it also needs other determiners.

If someone asks: Then, will the determination arising from the ground become endless? The answer to that is: From oneself, realize one's own nature. From terminology is valid cognition itself. Treatises are what dispel delusion. Thus it is said. Secondly, some great Brahmins only accept other-determination, and some think that if other-determination exists, then the valid cognition of what is to be determined and the valid cognition of the determiner, the two, collapse by examining whether they are one or different objects, therefore they only accept self-determination. Some, although they accept both self-determination and other-determination, distinguish them through the terminology of what is to be signified by valid cognition, others distinguish them through the basis, some distinguish them through the object, and some think they distinguish them through the definition, although there are many such views. However, the first four are not the intention of the treatise, and the latter two have the same meaning, therefore they will occur in the context of one's own system. Thirdly, there are three: the way in which the treatise establishes self-determination and other-determination, the ascertainment of the definition and the basis, and the refutation of disputes. The first is: If the definition of valid cognition is non-deceptive knowledge, then on the basis of the two, perception and inference, how is it determined that both non-deception and knowledge exist? It is determined by the determining knowledge led by valid cognition. Then, is that determining knowledge led by its own power? Or is it led by the power of others? If someone asks, in the part where knowledge exists, it is possible to lead by one's own power, that is: From oneself, realize one's own nature. This means: Through this statement, universally, all terminological valid cognitions, in the part where the meaning-reversal of knowledge is clear, directly show self-determining valid cognition. From this, all self-awareness perceptions are also established as self-determining in the definition of non-deception. Because, it and its own object of activity are self-determining, these two have the same meaning. Because, it is necessary to establish the clear part of self-awareness perception as its object of activity in terminology. In the part where non-deception exists, there is also leading by one's own power, and there is also leading by the power of others, that is: From terminology is valid cognition itself. This means: Terminology is the terminology of determining wisdom, determining consciousness, and "valid cognition itself" means that the meaning-reversal of valid cognition is non-deception itself. And, there are two types of determining knowledge: leading by one's own power and leading by the power of others. In short, the former treatise, for the meaning-reversal of knowledge, only has self-determination, and the latter treatise, for the meaning-reversal of valid cognition, self-determination
