One, because the general characteristic, the difference of the general characteristic, and the exclusion of others are the same in essence. Five, to summarize the ultimate object of measurement into one self-characteristic: Well then, if asked, 'One's own nature is one object of measurement,' etc., what does it mean to say that the object of measurement is one self-characteristic? Generally speaking, in the treatises of logic, first, the valid means of cognition that are recognized by all, whether or not they have entered a philosophical system, are identified. Then, establishing a teacher similar to this as a valid person is the meaning of the occasion. After identifying non-deception, non-misunderstanding, and clear meaning, it is said below that 'The one who possesses this is the Blessed One, the valid means of cognition.' Therefore, the meaning of the valid means of cognition recognized by all, whether or not they have entered a philosophical system, is, as stated in the *Compendium on Valid Cognition*, from the occasion of 'Obtaining and abandoning benefit and non-benefit must be preceded by correct knowledge,' it is the knowledge that causes the acceptance and rejection of objects that have the power to benefit and harm. Such a valid means of cognition, the object of benefit that can produce benefit and the object of harm that can produce harm are only self-characteristics, because only self-characteristics can produce benefit and harm, and general characteristics cannot do this. Because this has the result of acceptance and rejection, all individuals will enter. And, if it cannot accomplish meaning, what is the use of seeking meaning?' Because it is said so. And, the self-characteristic itself, when the direct perception that clarifies meaning is used as a measure, is the object to be grasped, and when inference is used as a measure, it is the object of attachment. Relying on these two valid means of cognition, when an individual enters, because it is not deceptive, it is the object of entry. Considering this, the *Auto-commentary on the Treasury of Reasoning* says, 'The self-characteristic itself, if measured directly, is the object to be grasped, and if measured indirectly, it is the object of attachment, and when both individuals enter, because it is not deceptive, it is the object of entry.' It is said so. The meaning of 'measuring directly' also refers to measuring manifestly, which can be known through the force of the words. In short, the self-characteristic itself, when the two valid means of cognition, direct perception and inference, are used as measures, although the object of measurement of the way of entering has two, self-characteristic and general characteristic, the object of measurement of the object of entry is only the self-characteristic, and the view that 'one's own nature is one object of measurement,' etc., is not mistaken. In the *Commentary of the Gods*, it says, 'In that case, one's own nature is only one's own essence, and the essence of others.'

Because it is realized through the means of... What are their characteristics? It is said in the scriptures that they are established as the two that can be measured. Thirdly, refuting the arguments is divided into two: refuting the arguments against the absence of an object in erroneous consciousness, and refuting the arguments against the self-characterized object of apprehension. The first has four parts: refuting the contradiction with the statement of two measurable objects, refuting the argument that the general meaning and non-existence are the same in the manifest object, refuting the contradiction with experience, and refuting the fallacy that negation is not understood by valid cognition. The first is: If the two, direct perception and inference, are applied to measure a single self-characteristic, and the object of application is only the self-characteristic, then it contradicts what the teacher Dignāga said about the two measurable objects. Answer: There is no fault, because a single self-characteristic has two ways of being understood: being understood from the aspect of its own nature and being understood from the aspect of the general meaning of others, so it is established as the two, self and general. Secondly: If the general meaning does not exist in the object but is measurable, then the manifestation of non-existence is also the same. Answer: There is no fault, because the former, although not a self-characteristic, has the attainment of the self-characteristic of the object of application based on it; while the latter, its own nature is not a self-characteristic, and based on it, the self-characteristic of the object of application cannot be attained. Thirdly: If the object of appearance is not a self-characteristic, then it contradicts the clear appearance in consciousness. Answer: There is no fault, because among the aspect of the clear appearance in conceptual thought and the aspect of superimposing it on external objects, the former is consciousness, and the latter is the general characteristic. Fourthly: It follows that there is no valid cognition that measures non-existence. If it is the object of application of valid cognition that becomes the cause of acceptance and rejection, then it must be a self-characteristic. Answer: There is no fault, because the valid cognition that measures non-existence measures existence and non-existence. The meaning of these is in the Treasury of Logic, from "If asserting two objects is harmful?" to "There is no contradiction because of establishing." The meaning of the five and a half verses has been explained without error. Secondly, there are two parts: argument and answer. The first is: It is unreasonable to assert that the measurable object of apprehension is a single self-characteristic, because the object of apprehension that has become an external object has been rejected by the wise, and it is impossible for the object of apprehension to become consciousness here. The second is: A general establishment of the classification of philosophical tenets, and...
