There are two ways to represent the definition that belongs to this rock combination. Similarly, taking the term "cow" as the basis of the name, there are two ways to represent the general signified and the signified that belongs to a specific combination. Also, taking white mustard as the basis of the name, there are two ways to represent the general name and the name that belongs to a specific combination, which should also be understood in combination. Secondly, taking the term "cow" and white mustard as the basis of representation, it represents the general non-definition, not the opposite of the meaning of cutting off direct contradictions, which is the general way of representation. And it represents the non-definition of a cow, not the opposite of the meaning of cutting off the direct contradiction of a cow, which are two specific ways of representation. Similarly, including tumors, etc., taking white mustard as the basis of the name, there are two ways to represent the general non-signified and the non-signified that belongs to a specific combination. Furthermore, taking the term "cow" and including tumors, etc., as the basis of the name, there are two ways to represent the general non-name and the non-name that belongs to a specific combination, making a total of six. Among these six, four are correct, and the two that represent white mustard as a general non-name and the term "cow" and including tumors, etc., as a general non-name are incorrect, because there may be a faultless definition in representing the term "spotted cow," and because at the appropriate time, all dharmas may become faultless names. Secondly, the number of definitions and signifieds are equal, because it is impossible for one definition to have multiple signifieds, and it is impossible for one signified to have multiple definitions. This is because it is grasped as one by conceptual thought, for example, grasping "this bulging belly is a pot." The definition must be existent, and the signified must be imputed, because the definition is the opposite of the meaning, and the signified is distinguished by name. The existent here is not a dharma that is established as an entity. Some people think that the definition and the signified are the same entity in meaning, which has already been refuted. The Sravaka school believes that the definition of conditioned phenomena, birth, dwelling, aging, and decay, is a different entity from the signified conditioned phenomena, which is also unreasonable, because they admit that that definition cannot represent the inseparability of the nature of the signified, and if it is represented as having differences, then the conditioned phenomenon pot

Like that, it will possess impermanence, and will not become non-impermanent. Some say that just as one seed produces multiple fruits, and multiple reasons can be valid for one thesis, one characteristic can represent multiple representable objects, and multiple characteristics can represent one representable object, so the numbers are not equal. Both of these statements are unreasonable. If that characteristic does not differentiate that representable object from what is not that, then it cannot represent that representable object; and if it differentiates, then it cannot represent what is not that, because what is not that contradicts that. If someone thinks that both non-deception and non-understanding of clear meaning are characteristics of valid cognition (pramāṇa), and the five dharmas such as entity are valid reasons for establishing for others, and valid sides for establishing for others, then the fault is also the same for you. But this is not the case, because non-deception and non-understanding of clear meaning are one characteristic, and valid reasons for establishing for others and valid sides for establishing for others are also one representable object. Second, specifically determining the characteristics of valid cognition is divided into two parts: determining the characteristics and how it cuts off superimpositions. The first part includes three: negation, establishment, and abandonment. First, the teacher said in the treatise that the characteristics of valid cognition are non-deceptive knowledge and non-understanding of clear meaning, so are these synonymous characteristics or separate characteristics? The teacher Lha dBang Blo (Heavenly Powerful Intellect) thinks that each one can represent separately, so he considers them separate characteristics. Because in the commentary it says: "In this way, the characteristic of valid cognition is said to be one, non-deceptive. The clarifier of the meaning of what is not understood is also another, the second characteristic." The Ornament Maker said that there are two types of valid cognition, ultimate valid cognition and conventional valid cognition. The characteristic of the former (ultimate valid cognition) is non-understanding of clear meaning, but not non-deception, because there is no attainment of the meaning of cutting off. The characteristic of the latter is the collection of non-deception and non-understanding of clear meaning, because there is attainment of the meaning of cutting off. Furthermore, the teacher Dharmakirti said in the Pramāṇaviniścaya: "These act after completely cutting off the object, therefore there is no deception in the action of the object." The non-deception represented by these three words is a characteristic with three special features. These three special features are: the special feature of the entity, the ability to obtain the object, the object.
