All are momentary. Where is there any abiding? As it says. Here also, it says, 'Since it is momentary, from what does action arise?' Therefore, it is not appropriate to say that. Although there is action that benefits the momentary, ordinary minds cannot ascertain it. As it says in the Pramāṇaviniścaya, 'Momentary things are possible to benefit.' Therefore. Third, explaining the valid cognition that determines relationships, there are three: establishing the definition, identifying the basis of the definition, and how they are determined. First, there are two: the determination of the relationship of one entity and the determination of the relationship of arising from that. First, the relationship of establishing terminology is established by making a single term agreement when the two, the sign and the signified, are mistaken as having the same meaning, but they are not one in meaning. Also, the relationship between the general and the particular is established by making a single term agreement for the single reverse and the double reverse, but in meaning, the single substance has already been negated. The relationship of establishing meaning is that although the reverse is different in terms of the elimination of the sign and the property, how is it established as being one in meaning? For this, there are two: establishing the root sign and establishing its mode. The first is: 'Just having self-nature and the nature of having a relationship.' And, 'Just having destruction, having a relationship. Therefore, sound is impermanent.' It is said that these are established as signs in most cases in the scriptures. In the case of 'destruction as effect and just being,' it is said that the effect is established as a sign and that being is established as a sign. Here, some accept that sound, as it is, is pervaded by impermanence, which is somewhat uncomfortable in Tibetan terminology. When establishing sound as impermanent, the being and the thing that are established as signs are called bhava (藏文:བྷ་ཝ་,梵文天城体:भव,梵文罗马拟音:bhava,汉语字面意思:有) in India, so some translate it as thing and some translate it as being. However, in terms of elimination, the earlier translators often spoke of being as being. As it says, 'The general being is greatly proclaimed.' And, 'Because it exists in all reverses.' And, 'Those that are the same reverse are just being.' And, as it says in the Rigs gter, 'That which is not the reverse of self-nature, exists in all things.' Therefore. That

Whatever is made or is a thing, is invariably impermanent. For example, like a pot, sound is also made or is a thing. Of these two formulations, the former is dependent on distinctions, and the latter is self-purifying. Secondly, there are two parts: establishing the property of the subject and establishing pervasion. The first part is that sound is born from its own cause, which can be determined by direct perception, inference, and scripture. From its characteristic of being made, it is determined to be a product, and from its ability to perform a function, it is determined to be a thing. Secondly, there are two types: independent reason and contradictory reason. The first is that whatever turns into its own nature without depending on anything other than its own cause is necessarily its own nature. For example, the last moment of the collection of causes produces its own effect without depending on anything other than its own cause. The pot also decays without depending on anything other than its own cause. That is (the independent reason). If it is said that the reason is not established because the destruction of the pot depends on a hammer, etc., and the destruction of the tree depends on fire, then to refute that, (the scripture says) having a reason of other dharma meaning. And so on, and (the scripture says) other things than fire. and so on. Here, the meaning of saying that destruction is without cause, for the object to be destroyed, such as a pot, the destruction of the pot is considered to be the Buddhist view, and the non-existence of the object of the pot after the pot is destroyed is considered to be the Vaisheshika view. In the first case, it means that there is no other cause of destruction other than the cause of the pot. In the latter case, it means that there is absolutely no cause. The second is the contradictory reason. The Ishvaravadins (followers of Ishvara) say that although most crows are black, white ones are possible. Similarly, although most things are impermanent, some things like Ishvara are permanent, so the reason (thing) falls into the dissimilar side. The Samkhyas say that although the changing things like sound are made by Prakriti (primordial matter), they are permanent, so the reason (being made) falls into the dissimilar side. The refutation of the first view is that whatever is devoid of the ability to function sequentially and simultaneously is necessarily devoid of things. For example, space. The permanent things like Ishvara are also devoid of the ability to function sequentially and simultaneously.
