So, what kind of Dharma are you? It is the one that does not abandon other Dharmas. Since things do not intermingle with each other, there is actually no such thing as not abandoning other Dharmas. Non-things are not established as things, so they do not exist. As it is said in the Examination of Relations: "The characteristic of any relation is that it exists on two, not on others." Therefore, the meaning of the word 'relation' is also not established in reality. Both Buddhists and non-Buddhists consider the word 'sambandha' (Sambandha, Devanagari: सम्बन्ध, Romanized Sanskrit: sambandha, literal Chinese meaning: combination) for relation to mean correctly bound, or 'pratibandha' (Pratibandha, Devanagari: प्रतिबन्ध, Romanized Sanskrit: pratibandha, literal Chinese meaning: separately bound) to mean separately bound and the two do not abandon each other. But as before, this is not established in either things or non-things. Considering this, the Blessed One said in the Sutra: "All dharmas are without relation." The second part has three points: refuting that the relation of one entity is established in reality; refuting that the relation of arising from that is established in reality; refuting relations other than that. The first point is: all knowable things are included in things and non-things, and non-things do not have a relation of one entity in reality, because non-things themselves are not established in reality. Things also do not have a relation of one entity in reality, because things can be reduced to two types: different entities and one entity. In the first case, the meaning of the relation of one entity does not exist. In the latter case, there are two cases: sameness and difference. In the first case, the meaning of relation does not exist. In the latter case, if different characteristics exist in reality, then the different characteristics would become substances. The second part has two points: refuting the relation on the substances of cause and effect; refuting the relation on the categories of cause and effect. The first point: refuting the relation in the case of cause and effect arising sequentially, refuting the relation in the case of singularity, and refuting the relation in the case of dependence. The first case is: it is impossible for different substances at the same time to have a relation arising from that. For cases that are not at the same time, such as fire and smoke, the relation arising from that is also not established in reality, because when the cause, fire, exists, the result, smoke, has not yet arisen; when the smoke arises, the cause, fire, has already ceased and is no longer a thing. Therefore, when one of them exists as a thing, the other does not exist as a thing. As it is said in the Examination of Relations: "The substances of cause and effect, the two cannot exist together, how can it be established that they exist on two? Not existing on two, how can there be a relation?"

Secondly, if it is said that the relationship does not need to depend on two things, but that the relationship of both is established on each separate fire and smoke, then that is unreasonable. Because this would lead to the consequence that there would be no things without a relationship, and that seeing one separate fire and smoke that do not depend on each other, the relationship of both would necessarily be established. Moreover, even if they do not depend on each other, if they are cause and effect, then the arguments where the characteristics of the effect and the cause are not evident would become meaningless faults. Because in the "Examination of Relationship" it says, "Because it exists even without it. Abiding in one, there is no relationship." Therefore, it is said. The third part has two points: denying the relationship of helping, and denying the relationship of not arising without it. The first point, if it is said that fire is the helper and smoke is the helped, therefore the relationship is truly established on both of them, that is not correct. Because in the helper and the helped, when one of them exists as a thing, the other does not exist as a thing, therefore the relationship of arising between things and non-things has already been denied. Because in the "Examination of Relationship" it says, "When this abides elsewhere, if these two depend on one, dependence will become help, but if not, how can it help?" Therefore, it is said. The second point, if it is said that merely because the name of the effect does not arise without depending on the cause, it is considered a relationship, then the left and right horns, the near and far shores, long and short, and so on, would all become cause and effect. Because without depending on the right horn, etc., the name of the left horn, etc., would not arise. Because in the "Examination of Relationship" it says, "If because one thing has a relationship, those two are cause and effect, because there is a relationship of two, etc., the left and right horns also obtain that name." Therefore, it is said. Secondly, denying the relationship in the category of cause and effect: If it is said that the relationship of arising is not established on the self-character of cause and effect, but the relationship of arising is established on the category of cause and effect, that is unreasonable. Does the category of cause and effect act on the cause and effect themselves, or does it act on something else? If it is the former, then the reasoning that denies the relationship in meaning for cause and effect is the same. If it is the latter, then is the category the same entity as its own appearances? If it is, then the reasoning that prevents the Samkhya school from considering the common appearance as the same entity is the same.
