It is similar to the previous intention. The third has three points: the definition of other-exclusion; ascertaining its nature; refuting disputes about exclusion. The first is: the imputation that appears in that object by cutting off what is contradictory to that object. Among them, cutting off contradictory things, cutting off dissimilar kinds, and cutting off what is not that are the same in meaning. Other-exclusion, exclusion, negation, and determination are the same in essence even though their meanings are opposite, so they can be represented by one definition. Generalities and general characteristics are coextensive with them, but the opposite meaning must be sought elsewhere. The meaning of cutting off contradictions is also: although there is no actual way of grasping in the conceptual thought that grasps the pot that it is a pot that has been cut off from non-pots, the appearance of the pot that appears to oneself is dependent on the cutting off of non-pots because it is attached to the external pot, because it is attached to the thought that this is a pot, not that this is a pillar. Similarly, the word "pot" is used by cutting off contradictions, although the word "pot" does not actually exist after cutting off non-pots, the meaning understood from it depends on cutting off non-pots, because after hearing the word "pot", the conceptual thought that grasps the pot arises, but the conceptual thought that grasps the pillar etc. does not arise. Considering this, (the text says:) "It is not that there are two sounds, because they do not exist mutually." The second part has three points: the classification of other-exclusion, its detailed distinctions, and the determination of all the essential points on one subject. The first point is: the way things exist and the way the mind grasps them, the first of which is: the object of other-exclusion is both the expressing sound and the conceptual thought. The actual object of these two is not a thing, and the object of attachment is the self-character, and things that are not different in meaning such as impermanence exist as one. Pillars, pots, etc., which are different in substance in meaning, exist without being mixed with others, because there is no difference in meaning between the self-character that has become the object of this attachment and the self-character that has become the object of appearance of direct perception. To this, the Vaisheshikas and others say: what is made is the established reason for proving that sound is impermanent, because what is made and impermanent are not different in meaning.

It is the permanent dharma. Because the pot does not follow it. Is it because it exists inseparably from sound? The answer to that is that one must understand the way the mind enters. Secondly, explaining the way the mind holds. In general, there are four ways in which the discriminating mind holds: holding many different things as one, holding one thing as many different things, holding many different things as many different things, and holding one thing as one. The latter two are easy to understand. Now, explaining the first two. The discrimination that holds many different things as one has three aspects: the cause of imputation, the aspect of the mind of imputation, and the necessity of imputation. First, in the presence of the mind of exclusion, the appearances of trees all have branches and leaves and have the same nature. The appearances of fire all have the same result of burning. Therefore, this is a tree, this is fire. Thus, it is imputed as one. Therefore, it is said: From what and from what, by the cause of that difference, the distinction of kinds is made. Secondly, in the presence of the mind of exclusion, for objects of the same nature, due to the power of beginningless habitual tendencies, they are held as one by discrimination. Relying on different things, the mind that appears as one, obscures the otherness of whose own nature. That is why it is said. Thirdly, it is for the sake of simultaneously realizing affirmation and negation for appearances that are different in place and time. For example, when it is said that there is no tree, it is understood that all appearances of trees do not exist. When it is said that there is any appearance of a tree, it is understood that there is a tree. Considering this, it is said: In order to simultaneously realize some. The second also has three points as before. First, the three, sound upon sound, made, and impermanent, have the same meaning, but there is a reason to distinguish the differences. Because sound does not exist in meaning apart from those three. Because all things are by nature. That is why it is said. Secondly, the three, sound, made, and impermanent, are expressed as different by the expressing sound, and appear as different in discrimination, and similarly, discrimination itself also clings to the difference in meaning. Therefore, what is the difference dharma. That is why it is said. Thirdly, there is a need for discrimination to distinguish the three, sound, made, and impermanent, as different. Like that distinguishing
