Furthermore, being related to many distinctions is a harmonious connection. Whatever does not exist as many is pervaded by not being related to many. For example, like a rabbit's horn, even the universal that is acknowledged as being related to many cannot exist as many; this is a disharmonious connection. Also, whatever lacks fire is pervaded by the absence of smoke. For example, like a river. Some also acknowledge the absence of fire. This is a harmonious connection. Whatever has smoke is pervaded by the presence of absence. For example, like a kitchen. Some, although acknowledging the absence of fire, also have smoke; this is the establishment of a disharmonious connection. Now, one might wonder if this becomes indistinguishable from a harmonious connection and a Svātantrika argument. The difference is extremely significant because here, a mountain with smoke but without fire, which is acknowledged by the opponent, is taken as the subject, whereas in the case of Svātantrika, only a mountain with smoke, where the presence or absence of fire is uncertain to the opponent, is taken as the subject. Third, refuting objections: If merely what is acknowledged by others is valid as a sign, then it is the same for Svātantrika; if it is not valid, then it is also not valid for Prasangika. If so, in Svātantrika, merely what is acknowledged by others is not valid as a sign because if the reason in Svātantrika is not established by the proponent himself, then it cannot establish the probandum. In Prasangika, merely what is acknowledged by others is valid as a sign because it is merely refuting wrong conceptions by expressing contradictions to those who assert that the pervaded exists while the pervading does not exist on the same basis. For example, the logicians assert that the universal, although being an indivisible unity, is related to many distinctions, and that the possessor of parts, although being another indivisible substance, is related to many parts. The Samkhyas assert that sound, although being produced, is permanent. Some assert that there is smoke in some bases but no fire; for these, it is like refuting wrong conceptions merely by expressing contradictions. Second, the manner of answering. Among the two, refutation and establishment, the first is: Some say that the answers to Prasangika are definitely three: unestablished pervasion, unestablished sign, and arbitrary assertion. This is unreasonable. Then, for both contradictory pervasion and uncertain pervasion, one answer of unestablished pervasion would be sufficient because of that proposition. If you accept that, then unestablished pervasion and unestablished sign...
