Because there are two cases of non-concordance. The third is: དེཾ། If the opposite side is not observed, then it is not a means of proving that it is necessarily absent from the opposite side of the reason. Because generally, not observing does not necessarily mean absence. If it is not established, then for a living body, it should be without self, because the self is not observed. (This is) for the Materialists. For earth and so on, it should be without consciousness, because consciousness is not observed. (This is) for the Vaiśeṣikas. For a cause, it should be without effect, because the effect is not observed. (This is) for the Sāṃkhyas. From this point on, all instances of "not seeing in the opposite side" should be appended with "by the opponent who has become the reason." The third part has four points: If there is a connection, the reverse is established. If there is no connection, the reverse is not established. The way to show the connection in the example. By that way, the pervasiveness of the negation mark is established. The first point is: དེཾ། Impermanence, if your reverse is established, then the reverse of what is made is necessarily established, because what is made is connected to you as a single entity. Fire, if your reverse is established, then the reverse of smoke is necessarily established, because smoke is connected to you as arising from you. The second point is: དེཾ། If these two connections are not established, then for what is made, if the reverse of impermanence is established, then your reverse is not necessarily established, because you are something else unrelated to impermanence, just as the absence of a horse does not necessarily mean the absence of livestock. The same applies to fire and smoke. For what is made, if you exist, then the existence of impermanence is not necessarily established, because you are something else unrelated to impermanence, just as the existence of livestock does not necessarily mean the existence of a horse. The same applies to fire and smoke. The third part has three points: Even if there is no dissimilar example, it can be understood through reasoning. Showing reasoning to those who do not understand the example. For those who understand reasoning, the two ways of stating the proof. The first point is: དེཾ། It is necessary to show the connection of "if not, then not arising" in the example, because in similar examples, concomitance must be shown, and in dissimilar examples, the reverse must be shown. So, in order to show the reverse, is it necessary to actually establish a dissimilar example? For the two reasons that can be established, in order to show your reverse, it is not necessarily necessary to actually establish your dissimilar example, because even if your dissimilar example is not actually established, by stating the reasoning that you are absent from the opposite side, your reverse can be understood.

For the sake of... Second, then to whom should this reasoning be shown? To this, it is answered: Taking the example of a pot, the relationship between impermanence and the subject, you (the proponent) have an object to show, because you need to show it to an opponent who does not understand this point. The relationship of making fire between a wall and a stove also applies. Third, if it is shown in this way, when one understands the pervasive relationship on the analogy, the wise person who can recall the universal concept, the inference arises in your (the proponent's) continuum, without relying on the statement of the establishing word that expresses the pervasion, because merely stating the property of the subject causes the inference to arise in your continuum. Apply this to the basis. Then, what should be done with a foolish opponent who, although understanding the pervasive relationship on the analogy, cannot recall the universal concept? To this, it is answered: For such a foolish opponent, although you need to state the universal concept, it is not necessary to actually state both pervasions, because in your view, by stating any one of the two pervasions, a recollection of the other arises. May the knowledgeable ones rejoice! Fourth, to this, it is answered: The place without fire is the subject; in the fireless night sea, the reason for establishing the absence of smoke is correct, because this reason possesses the three modes of establishment. The place without trees is the subject; on the treeless rocky cliff, the sign for establishing the absence of Shapa trees is correct, because this reason possesses the three modes of establishment. A visible pot not cognized by valid cognition is the subject; in the eastern space devoid of pots, the sign for establishing the definite absence of a visible pot is correct; this sign is the same. To this, it is answered: The correct reason of non-cognition of the visible, from the perspective of determining the pervasive relationship, although it can be summarized into the three reasons of cause-pervasion, effect-pervasion, and non-cognition of self-nature, there are many kinds from the perspective of the way of establishing it as a sign, because from the perspective of the way of establishing it as a sign, there is the correct reason of non-cognition of the related opposite, and the eight correct reasons of cognition of the contradictory opposite. Third, the determination also depends on two determining factors; if the correct sign does not have the determination of "if not, then not arising," then what is used to determine it? Answer: The "if not, then not arising" relationship of the two establishing signs cannot be determined merely by not seeing it on the sign, and not seeing it on the subject, because the sign and the subject are the cause...
