Both attachments arise. There is no other way to eliminate these two. If there is no detachment, one will wander in samsara. The first is: If someone claims to separate "mine" from attachment, then this person who is attached to "mine" has not been liberated from attachment to "mine" because he is still attached to "mine." If someone believes that "I" has faultless qualities, then he will be attached to "I." The second is divided into two: there is no other way to eliminate attachment to "I," and there is no other way to eliminate attachment to "mine." The first is divided into three: merely by recognizing faults, one cannot eliminate the object of attachment; merely by recognizing faults, one cannot reverse substantial attachment; it reveals that merely admitting the fault itself is self-contradictory. The first is: If someone says that even if "I" is faultless, one can eliminate attachment to "I" by recognizing that attachment to "I" is faulty, then this person who believes that attachment to "I" is faulty cannot eliminate attachment to "I" because he cannot refute the object of attachment to "I." This is because the mind of attachment must be eliminated by eliminating the object of attachment. The second is: If someone believes that attachment to "I" is faulty, then this person who is attached to "I" cannot eliminate attachment to "I" because he believes that "I" has faultless qualities. The third is: If someone says that attachment to "I" is faulty because it leads to suffering, then even if attachment to "I" leads to suffering, one should not eliminate attachment to "I" because he believes that "I" is the faultless "mine." For example, even if "I" leads to suffering, one should not eliminate attachment to "I." If someone says that "I" is faultless because "I" is not the sole cause of suffering, then you who are attached to "I" should be faultless because you are not the sole cause of suffering. If this is admitted, then both "I" and attachment to "I" should not be eliminated because they are faultless. The second is divided into four: one cannot eliminate by meditating on the suffering of enjoyment, etc.; one cannot eliminate by recognizing the difference between enjoyment and "I"; one cannot eliminate by renouncing suffering; refuting the claim that suffering is an object of meditation. The first is divided into two: stating the view; explaining the three reasons. The first is: If someone says that a limb bitten by a snake is painful,

If, like abandoning through meditating on the cause of suffering, attachment arises to "I," and abandoning through meditating on "mine" as the cause of suffering, then (how is it)? The second part is divided into two points: refuting the example, refuting the thesis. The first point is: I (Tibetan: བདག), like a limb seized by a snake, you are not abandoned merely by meditating on it as suffering, because if the thought of "mine" towards you is not destroyed, then you will not be abandoned, this is obvious. The second part is divided into seven points: if self-grasping exists, then abandonment is impossible; if "mine" is abandoned, then there is no self-nature of "mine"; if self-grasping exists, then attachment to "mine" will arise; meditating on suffering will make effort meaningless; if "I" has no faults, then there is no place to be free from attachment; merely knowing faults cannot abandon attachment; if there is no harm to the cause, then it cannot be abandoned. The first point is divided into two points: if self-grasping exists, then there is no freedom from attachment; refuting the proof of destroying self-grasping. The first point is: senses (Tibetan: དབཾང་), like those with self-grasping who meditate on the senses etc. as suffering, you cannot be free from attachment to the senses etc., because you have not abandoned the thought of "mine" towards the senses etc., because you regard the senses etc. as the basis of enjoyment. Body (Tibetan: ལུས), is pervasive, because for hair etc. that falls off from the body, the thought of "mine" is abandoned, and attachment arises to others. The second part is divided into two points: refuting abandonment through meditating on suffering, refuting abandonment through generating suffering. The first point is: if through meditating on attachment to "I" etc. as suffering, the thought of "mine" is abandoned, then (how is it)? That (Tibetan: དེ), attachment to "I" etc., even if you are regarded as suffering, the thought of "mine" will not be abandoned, because even if you are regarded as suffering, the connection between you and the concept of "mine" etc. still exists. Concept (Tibetan: འཾདུ), that concept etc., the connection between you and the concept of "mine" etc. is not the cause of the arising of the thought of "mine" towards you, because even without the connection of concepts etc., the thought of "mine" arises because it is regarded as beneficial. The second point is: suffering (Tibetan: སྡུག), a person who has attained liberation will not have the thought of "mine" towards the senses etc., because the senses etc. are completely regarded as the cause of generating suffering. Like a finger seized by a poisonous snake, then (how is it)? One (Tibetan: གཅིག), senses etc., you are regarded as the cause of generating suffering, therefore you will not abandon the thought of "mine" towards you, because you completely
