If refutation and establishment are actually done to the own-character, then the thing's own-character, as the subject, you will realize all refutations and establishments simultaneously, because you actually accommodate refutations and establishments. Because all your produced impermanent things are one entity with you. If it is not established, then that, as the subject, you will not be able to place the refutation of permanence and the establishment of production on the same basis, because your produced impermanent things are other entities than you. The third has three: Although there is no increase or decrease, it appears as if there is increase or decrease; although it does not exist in reality, it is not harmed by valid cognition; although it is mistaken, it is not known to be mistaken. The first is: སྣངཾ་། The vase that appears in conceptual thought, as the subject, you are capable of being a direct indication of refutation and establishment, because you are the actual object of conceptual thought, in the aspect of elimination, the object to be refuted newly decreases, and in the aspect of establishment, the object to be established newly increases, appearing as such. The second is: མེཾད། The term of refutation and establishment that actually appears in conceptual thought, as the subject, you do not actually exist, but you are not harmed by valid cognition, because you are a worldly term that relies on the difference of own-characters and is consistent with the meaning. How are the own-characters established as different? The eye faculty, as the subject, you are allowed to be called the same yet different, because your entity is the same, but because you are not the cause of eye consciousness, you are different, and because you are the cause of ear consciousness, you are different. The third is: ཐཾ། The conceptual mind that performs refutation and establishment, as the subject, although you are a mistaken consciousness, you yourself do not know that you are a mistaken consciousness, because you are a mind that clings to appearance and imputation as one. Although the second point is established, it is uncertain due to the lack of a similar instance, it is: ཡོཾད། The self, as the subject, you are not negated by valid cognition, because on a living body, there is evidence that you exist. If it is said that it is established by Buddhists' commitment to no-self? The Buddhists' commitment, as the subject, because you are a valid commitment, it cannot be established that you are no-self, because you are not a valid commitment. Life and so on, as the subject, not pervading from the similar instance with self is not uncertain, because the similar instance with self is uncertain as to whether it exists or not. If it is admitted, then that, as the subject, not pervading from the dissimilar instance without self is not uncertain.

Because of that desire. It pervades, if the existence of either self or non-self is not established, then refutation on the other is not established. If it is said that life, etc., is not seen as a distinction of non-self, such as pots, etc., so refutation is established on non-self. (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) Things like life are the subject. It is not necessarily the case that just because it is not observed in visible things like pots, etc., it does not exist in all non-selves, because it does not exist in the visible, so it may exist in some non-selves. For example, some hard things cannot be cut by a sword, but some can be cut. Fourth, there are two reasons for refuting the mistaken refutation of life, etc.: Refutation with uncertain contradiction is mistaken, and refutation with uncertain connection is mistaken. The first is: ཡོཾད། (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) Things like life are the subject. It is not certain to be refuted from non-self, because neither self nor connection is established. (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) Even if life, etc., can be refuted from non-self, a living body, the subject, cannot be established as having a self because of the reason for refuting from non-self, because if there is no refutation on that dharma, it does not pervade existence on that dharma. The sign is admitted, because life, etc., does not refute from the concordant side that proves the living body has a self, but it is not present on it. (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) The living body is the common basis of non-self and non-self-having and self-having and non-self-having, because life, etc., is the common basis of no following and no refutation on the concordant side around it. The second has two: Refutation depends on certain connection, and refutation without a determinant is mistaken. The first is: འཇུཾག (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) A valid reason dharma, if your following refutation is uncertain, then rely on the certain connection of non-arising without absence, because if there is a certain connection of non-arising without absence, your following refutation must be certain by the power of it. (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) A connection dharma that does not arise without absence, your certainty depends on the valid cognition that establishes you, because you must be certain by the power of the valid cognition that establishes you. The second has two: There is no determinant of causal connection, and there is no determinant of one-self connection. The first has three: The determinant of causal connection is real, it is not established on both self and life, refuting the dispute over that determinant. The first is: འབྲཾས། (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) Fire and smoke dharma.
