So it is. Therefore, the knowable phenomenon called "pot," with respect to substances and categories, etc., that have the meaning of parts, it is not a connection, that is, it is not an actual combination, but because that sound is combined with the exclusion itself that is removed from other things. Second, to establish without mixing before and after, there are two: marginal examination and the meaning of the treatise. First, some people, in establishing direct perception as being free from conceptualization, divide it into three to establish name-combination conceptualization and separation, meaning-combination conceptualization and separation, and sound-combination conceptualization or expression-combination conceptualization and separation, and think that the latter is what this treatise teaches, which is also a little not good, because this is included in the category of establishing meaning-combination conceptualization and separation. Some people, the combination of proving that worldly laws are not held by sense consciousness is also not the contextual meaning of the treatise, because the previous three differences, etc., are the contextual meaning of sense consciousness not holding them separately, and this is the occasion to show that even if there is separate holding, there is no simultaneous combination. The self-system is, from "difference and difference base" up to this point, like the difference base cow, sense consciousness has holding, but the dharma of difference, and the relationship between the two, and the three terms of the name, sense consciousness does not hold them separately, so it has been established that the meaning combination of those combinations is not conceptualization. From this point onwards, it shows that even if there is separate holding, it is impossible for sense consciousness to combine those together. Because there is no conceptualization of the differences of kinds, etc., in the previous treatise, and in the old commentary of this treatise, it is said that from the Pramāṇavārttika, it is distinguished in different ways, and the language is also mixed, etc. Second, there are three: without holding before and after, therefore there is no mixing; even if you conceptualize other things, you do not hold the expression because you see it; if it is a name-combination conceptualization, then it is too extreme. First, the sense consciousness such as eye consciousness, the dharma is, has the cause of remembering the expression, that is, the fruit, the time of the previous expression and the thing seen now are mixed together, holding the name of this thing is this, what is the nature of such conceptualization? That is, it is unreasonable, because it is empty of holding things before and after as one. Second, the distinction is from the present form, entering into the past sound, the sentient being, also sees the form with the eyes.

In that place where things have been seen as they are, with regard to a certain dharma, the conceptual thought that combines name and reality, which is generated by clearly recalling the name, is also non-existent, because it does not hold the name of that place. The third part has three points: It is wrong for the power consciousness to enter due to desire. It is wrong to not have experienced grasping form. It is wrong to not have the appearance of its own characteristic. The first point is: Power consciousness, with regard to a certain dharma, you will necessarily truly establish sound on your object, because you are the conceptual thought that combines sound and meaning. This is universal, in whichever object the sound of the name is definitely and truly established, in that very object the conceptual thought that combines name will arise, and not in other places. If you admit, then the knowledge arising from the senses, with regard to a certain dharma, you will enter your own object due to desire, but you will not see the external object that is grasped, because that is desire. The second part has three points: It is necessary to refute the fault of not having an experiencer. Refute other answers that have an experiencer. If it is non-conceptual, then the desired is established. The first point is: In the continuum of a certain person, with regard to a certain dharma, when eye consciousness sees form, the knowledge of grasping form is without experience, because when eye consciousness sees form and says "This is form," that is, when it is determined, how can one see and determine "This is the wisdom of grasping form"? Because it is not determined. The universality is admitted, because grasping form is conceptual thought, and how can that experiencer be non-conceptual? Because it is not. It cannot be admitted, because grasping form and experiencing its feeling are simultaneous, so it is excluded. The second part has three points: Refute that grasping form itself experiences. Refute other simultaneous experiences. Refute other experiences that arise later. The first point is: If you say that the reason is not established, because the direct perception conceptual thought of seeing "This is form" itself is experiencing "This is grasping form," then, in the continuum of a certain person, with regard to a certain dharma, two conceptual thoughts of different entities may arise simultaneously, because the conceptual thought of "This is form" and the conceptual thought of "This is grasping form" exist simultaneously. If you admit, then it is clear that it has not been seen by valid cognition. The second point is: If you say that the knowledge of grasping form is experienced by another knowledge of a different entity that is simultaneous with itself, so the previous reason is not established, then it has been shown that in one continuum, two conceptual thoughts of different entities will not arise simultaneously.
