Because for the apprehending consciousness, it is merely established as manifest through the gateway of the transformation of your own nature, i.e., appearance. Mind, has the property of being self-illuminating, i.e., arising as the nature of luminosity, because the appearance of luminosity in itself is also its very nature. If, in that way, the appearance of the prior consciousness arises in the subsequent consciousness, and thus the subsequent consciousness makes the prior one manifest, then the subsequent consciousness, has the property of necessarily being established as a knower, because it arises as the appearance of an object and is manifest to itself. If the subsequent consciousness is not self-aware, then the object also, has the property of necessarily becoming the illuminator of the prior consciousness, because that subsequent consciousness, which is not manifest itself, is the illuminator of the prior consciousness, and since it is not manifest simultaneously with the subsequent consciousness, it is of the same nature. Therefore, according to our system, mind, has the property of being supremely clear by way of arising as the nature of self-illumination, and is not something to be illuminated by another, because if it were not self-illuminating, there would be a great absurdity. Other-meaning, has the property of being able to be designated as supremely clear even though it is not self-illuminating, because in that consciousness, the transformation of your own nature, i.e., appearance, makes your appearance manifest in the mind, i.e., manifest. Secondly, the other prior consciousness, has the property that even though the subsequent consciousness arises as similar to you, that subsequent consciousness does not want to make it supremely clear, because it is itself supremely clear. So, how does a consciousness that arises as similar to an object make the object manifest? A consciousness that is similar to an object, has the property of not making the object itself the nature of manifestation, but merely because the nature, i.e., appearance, of that object arises, it is established as making the object supremely clear. If it is self-illuminating, how is it not the illuminable and the illuminator? The two, prior and subsequent, consciousnesses, have the property of not being illuminable and illuminator, because they are equally self-illuminating. For example, like two lamps. Object and mind, both have the property of being able to be illuminable and illuminator, because one of them is not self-illuminating, and the other is self-illuminating, for example, lamps and vases, etc., also, in sequence, one is manifest and the other is not manifest, and relying on this, the vase is the illuminable and the lamp is the nature of the illuminator, just as the term is greatly expanded in the world. To you, the Vaiśeṣika who says that mind is not manifest

So, for the consciousness that grasps objects such as form, when you see objects such as form, there is no doubt that you will also see, that is, experience, your own nature that is different from objects such as form, because you will later recall, "I saw objects such as form." This is pervasive. Because if consciousness itself has not been experienced, merely having an object and a sense faculty will not give rise to the certainty that "this consciousness saw this thing." Therefore, it is only by experiencing consciousness itself that the certainty that "this consciousness saw this thing" arises. Third, again, establishing self-awareness with the reasoning of the Sutra school is divided into two: establishing self-awareness with the reason of recollection; refuting the claim that it has already been established and is being re-established. The first: The reason of recollection stated by the teacher not only establishes two reasons, but also establishes self-awareness, that is, the consciousness that grasps form, etc., is experienced when it exists, because it will be recalled later. This is established in this way. The second is divided into two: stating the opponent's view; refuting the opponent's view. The first: If one establishes one's own experience from the reason of recollection, then it is uncertain. If one merely establishes experience, then it is a re-establishment of what has already been established, that is, the subsequent consciousness is known by another consciousness, that is, experienced, and from this, recollection arises. If one thinks in this way, then, the two are divided into two: the former consciousness should not grasp long, etc., it should follow; the latter consciousness should not transfer to the object, it should follow. The first is divided into two: refuting with reasoning that one hearing consciousness grasps long, etc.; if multiple sequential hearing consciousnesses grasp long, etc., then it contradicts one's own tenets. The first is divided into two: stating the thesis; refuting the answers of others. The first: For the answer to that view, temporarily setting aside the infinite reasoning stated by the teacher Dignāga, one's self answers: If this is the case, then if the consciousness that grasps long, etc., letters has no experience, then it will not be recalled later. If experience exists, then, are the parts of long, etc., letters grasped by one non-sequential hearing consciousness and then experience arises, or are they grasped by multiple sequential hearing consciousnesses and then experience arises? If it is the former, then, one hearing consciousness should not become the completion of grasping one letter such as a long letter, an extremely long letter, a short letter, etc., because it does not exist when a letter is formed for a long time. Because the hearing consciousness is momentary.
