It is said that due to the illusion of the earth, one experiences the external grass and so on, but not because of experiencing the self-nature of the external. So, what is the valid means of proof for the existence of external objects? There is no valid means of proof. If the mind is the object of grass and so on, that is, the appearing aspect, then apart from that, there is no seeing of external objects. If the mind is not the object of grass and so on, that is, the appearing aspect, then the consciousness that appears as grass and so on is the subject to be proven. How can it be an experience of the object? It is not logical, because it is not the appearing aspect of the object. Therefore, when the nature of the consciousness experiencing its own grasped aspect is proven not to be the same as the object, then the experience of the grasped aspect of this consciousness is the subject to be proven. For it, the object, that is, being the same as the object, what can it accomplish? It is only established as the manifestation of experiencing its own nature, that is, it can be measured. Third, if it is said that consciousness is the same as the object and is established as experiencing the object, then is it the same in all aspects or in some aspects? If it is the former, then consciousness is the subject to be proven. It will become not consciousness, because it is completely the same as matter and self-nature. If experiencing the object by being similar to the object in some aspects, then all eye consciousnesses and so on are the subject to be proven. It will become experiencing all sounds and so on, because it is similar to sounds and so on in some aspects. Fourth, just as the consciousness that appears as grass and so on is considered to experience grass and so on because it is the nature of grass and so on, that is, the appearing aspect, similarly, the later grass apprehension is the subject to be proven. The previous grass apprehension will also become experienced, because it is the experience, that is, it is the nature of the previous grass apprehension, that is, the appearing aspect. Fifth, if it is said that even if there is a similar arising, the later grass apprehension does not experience, that is, does not experience the previous grass apprehension, because after seeing the object grass and so on, just as it is certain that one sees grass and so on, it is not a deduction of certainty, so there is no fault of the later grass apprehension experiencing the previous one. Then, for the consciousness that constantly arises and holds the object grass and so on, it is also the subject to be proven. It should not be that there is no experience of grass and so on, because for the certainty of experiencing grass and so on, there is no certainty of constant arising, that is, the mind is distracted to other objects.

Because of existence. If there is certainty for the consciousness that grasps objects, because the cause of having certainty itself seems to arise from the object, if you say so. The subsequent blue-grasping consciousness, subject. Relative to the previous experiencing blue-grasping consciousness, why don't you have the certainty of "you have experienced the previous blue-grasping consciousness"? It should be there. Because (the subsequent blue-grasping consciousness) arises from the previous blue-grasping consciousness. Second, analyzing the clear appearance of white etc. to establish (self-awareness) is divided into two parts: First, inquire by examining the meaning of clarity; second, refute the two extremes of the inquiry separately. The first part is: Other reasonings for establishing self-awareness also include when the sense consciousness sees white, yellow, etc., for the self and other consciousnesses of white, etc., that are manifestly clear, the clarity is the arising appearance, what is this (clarity)? Is it an object other than the consciousness of manifestly clear white, etc.? Or has it become the nature of that consciousness? Thus examine. The second part is divided into two parts: If it is other, there are too many faults; if it is the nature, then self-awareness is established. The first part is divided into two parts: The consciousness cannot make the object clear, and there is no certainty of seeing the object. The first part is: If according to the first case, then the consciousness of white appearing clear, subject. How can it become white, etc., appearing clear without changing? Because it is not clear itself. Because what appears clear to oneself is an object that is a different substance from oneself. (The pervasion is) established. If the consciousness is established as clear, then the object should also appear clear. If it is not clear itself, then that consciousness must be all things, that is, no object appears clear. If the consciousness of white, etc., appearing clear is not clear itself, but another consciousness that arises later and makes it clear makes it clear, then, the consciousness of white, etc., appearing clear, subject. Your clarifier will become endless, because you (the consciousness of white, etc., appearing clear) need a second consciousness, and that (second consciousness) also needs a third consciousness, etc., to make it clear. The second part is divided into two parts: State the faults, refute the defense. The first part is: Consciousness, subject. There is no consciousness associated with white, etc., at the same time as seeing the consciousness of white, etc., itself, saying "white, etc., is the seeing of this." Because when one of the two, the object and the consciousness, such as white and white-grasping (consciousness), realizes the object, the second consciousness does not see (the first) consciousness. The thesis is accepted.
