It is like mistaking something for one because it is not clearly seen. Here, the term "aspect of the object" must be understood as the aspect of the object that has entirely become the nature of the mind. Second, there are three ways to explain the reasoning that establishes self-awareness: establishing self-awareness through the reasoning of the sutras previously explained; establishing self-awareness through the reasoning of the treatise writers; and again, establishing self-awareness through the reasoning of the sutras. The first is: the reasoning that establishes the two aspects spoken of by the teacher, etc., the subject of debate, mostly establishes self-awareness, which is established incidentally, because when the apprehended aspect of the mind itself appearing as an object is established, then what is to be experienced is established as its own nature. The second has four parts: establishing through experiencing the apprehended aspect of one's own nature; establishing through analyzing the clear appearance of white, etc.; establishing through negating that one's own mind is not manifest; and establishing through negating that experience is done by another experiencer. The first has two parts: stating the proof; refuting the answers of others. The first is: when the two aspects of knowledge transforming into its own nature and appearing as an object are established, the subject of debate, self-awareness is established, because what is to be experienced is established as the own nature of knowledge. The second has three parts: showing that there is no experience because what is to be experienced has ceased; if there is no self-experience, it contradicts direct perception itself; being harmed by the consequence of not experiencing other objects. The first is: even if the mind is established as having two aspects, it is not established as self-awareness, because the previous mind is not experienced by itself, but by the subsequent mind that appears with its aspect, if you say so. Then, the entity of the previous mind, that is, the subsequent mind with the aspect, the subject of debate, how does it experience the previous knowledge? It does not experience it, because the previous knowledge has ceased in your time. The subsequent mind, the subject of debate, all experiences will be reversed, that is, no knowable object can be known, because there is no own nature or experience. The second is: for the mind that grasps forms, etc., the grasper, that is, the experiencing mind, the subject of debate, will appear as the apprehended aspect, because it is a mind that grasps an object other than its own object. For example, sense consciousnesses, etc., that have the appearance of other objects, that is, forms, etc., because they grasp other objects than their own object, they are outwardly directed, that is, they appear as the apprehended aspect, this is the general rule. It is not possible to accept this view.

That is, always towards me, that is, towards one's own enlightenment, clearly tending inwards, that is, entering with the aspect of grasping, because it is seen by self-awareness. The third part has two: establishing the thesis and refuting it, and refuting the fault. The first part is: the object, whatever consciousness appears as blue, etc., is the subject, it does not experience that thing, because it appears as the thing itself, it does not experience it. Such a conclusion can also be obtained. The second part has five: refuting that similarity is the cause of establishing experience, refuting that similarity of mind is the cause of establishing experience, distinguishing and refuting on similar things, refuting that arising similarity is the cause of establishing experience, and refuting establishing experience with certainty. The first part is: if there is no pervasion for the above thesis, what else is the cause of establishing the experience of things other than the similarity between things and that thing? Because there is none, if it is thought that merely being similar to things experiences things. Then, all similarities between mind and things are the subject, mutual experience should be obtained, because they are similar to each other. The second part is: if merely being similar to things is not the definition of experiencing things, however, the similarity that has become the nature of that mind is the cause of establishing the experience of things, if this is the case, then that which has become the nature of that mind, which is similar to things, is the subject, it is not experiencing things, because the apprehended aspect of consciousness itself appearing as things is the experience of that. Therefore, the apprehended aspect of consciousness itself appearing as things experiencing that is the subject, it is not the cause of establishing the aspect similar to things, that is, it is not the subject of establishing the aspect, because that which is experienced is oneself appearing as things, it is the experience of that. It is pervasive, this similarity between the nature of the mind and things, in other worlds, is the cause of distinguishing the affairs of the object, knowing each thing, this is color, this is sound, however, because it cannot establish experience with that. If consciousness itself arises as the aspect of things, experiences, and does not experience other things, then why is it said that it experiences external blue, etc.? The consciousness that appears as things is the subject, merely by saying that it experiences blue, etc., it cannot be established that it experiences blue, etc., because the nature of the essence of consciousness itself experiences the aspect of that blue, etc., and falsely establishes that it experiences external blue, etc.
