Thus: In the thought of remembering the past, although the clarity of the past event has ceased and does not appear, the other category of meaning has not ceased and exists, therefore it appears. If it is said that the second way in which the mind itself appears as an object is not established, then, that which appears in the consciousness of remembering past blue etc., is the subject, it is not the category of meaning that is not corresponding to the color blue etc., because it appears as different things such as blue etc. Furthermore, is that category permanent or impermanent? If impermanent, then, that is the subject, it should not become a category, because it is not many moments. If it is permanent, then, that is the subject, how can it be the cause of generating the consciousness of remembering? It should not be the cause, because it is permanent. If you admit it, then its nature as the object to be grasped is lost. The second is: If it is said that in that memory, although the category of past events does not appear, the non-corresponding formative name and sign appear, then, name etc. are the subject, you should not become the object of the memory consciousness, because you have already been prohibited in "If you say name etc." etc., therefore. The third is: This way of memory consciousness, is the subject, it is not possessing the true meaning as the object to be grasped, because it is not established to be produced from the power of the object to be grasped, because even if there is no meaning, it is produced from mere intention and subsequent association. If it is said that even if the memory consciousness has the image of meaning, then, its cause, experience, what is the image of that meaning like? This consciousness with the image of focusing on the past, is the subject, it is also produced from the previous experience of meaning, that is, understanding, because it is the memory of meaning. If you think that the cause of that memory, the experience, is also empty of the image of meaning, then that memory, is the subject, how can it have that image of meaning? It should not have it, because memory is produced from the experience of not having the image of meaning. The fourth is: If it is said that memory is not produced from experience, but is directly produced from the meaning to be remembered, then, that memory, is the subject, it should not be directly produced from its own meaning to be remembered, because at the time of its own direct cause, its own meaning to be remembered does not exist. If it is said that the reason why memory has the image of meaning is because it is produced from meaning, then, in that case, experiential direct perception also, is the subject, it should become having the image of meaning, because it is produced from meaning. Furthermore, in memory it appears

That appearance of awareness, the subject of dharma, is not an appearance that directly indicates meaning, but is devoid of clarity, because it is emptiness. Fifth, if the appearance that appears to memory consciousness is a meaning different from consciousness, then that appearance, the subject of dharma, should be realized by other beings residing in that realm, just as it appears to the rememberer himself, because the mind can manifest different objects. If it is said that it is not pervasive, although it is meaning, it is always only related to my mind, so others cannot realize it, then that appearance, the subject of dharma, even if the rememberer says "I understand it like this," others should not realize it, because it is only related to the mind of the rememberer, so others cannot realize it. If it is said that from the words of the speaker, others do not realize the appearance that appears to the speaker, but realize another appearance of the meaning that appears to the listener's own mind, then the meaning of the object of the minds of the speaker and the listener, the subject of dharma, with the nature of clinging to the meaning spoken by the speaker and the meaning understood by the listener as appearing as one, then the meanings should not be connected as one, if the two minds of speaking and listening are only related to their respective meanings, then because of the relationship, what one holds, others cannot hold. If it is said that although the two who speak and listen each hold the meaning that appears to them, they are mistaken for one because the meanings are similar, so they call them one, then when understanding the meaning from sound, the minds of the speaker and the listener, the subject of dharma, should become those without an external object to be taken, because how can one take the different nature of the different meanings that appear to oneself and others, taking it as one without taking it, because those meanings do not appear as different, but are clung to as one. Second, there are three ways to establish that there are differences in the number of appearances: the first consciousness is remembered as two appearances, the latter consciousness is remembered with each appearance increasing, and this principle refutes those who say that there are no appearances. First, object consciousness is the eye, etc., that holds form, etc., and its consciousness is the memory consciousness that focuses on it, and from the difference in the number of appearances of these two, the two principles are established, this
