Regarding the direct perception of self-awareness that experiences desires and other feelings, those desires and other phenomena are capable of experiencing their own nature because they are the nature of experience. For example, for the school that considers appearances to be false, any consciousness is capable of being experienced because it is a valid means of cognition, an object to be measured by its own nature, and that is the result of self-awareness that experiences it, because it is knowledge. Third, if the aspect of grasping or that which can be self-experienced is a valid means of cognition, does it contradict what the teacher Dignāga said about self-awareness being a valid means of cognition? Dignāga (Dharmakīrti), here, saying that the aspect of grasping and the nature of being able to be experienced are valid means of cognition, does not contradict your saying that self-awareness is a valid means of cognition, because what you say about knowledge is that the aspect of grasping onto self-nature, called knowledge, is the part of the nature that completely cuts off oneself, that part is called the nature of being able to be self-experienced, and a valid means of cognition, which is self-awareness, is explained in detail in the part of self-awareness. In short, previously, the object-aspect was taken as the object to be measured, the grasping-aspect as the valid means of cognition, and the self-awareness as the result of the valid means of cognition. For those who consider appearances to be true, the object-aspect is considered to be knowledge, therefore the self-characteristic of self-awareness is considered to be the result, while for those who consider appearances to be false, the object-aspect is not true in either meaning or knowledge, therefore self-awareness is imputed and is the result. Therefore, "In that, the mind is the cutter," etc., defines the measure of the self-characteristic of self-awareness in the school that considers appearances to be false, meaning that any mind, when taken as an object to be measured, it can be established. Second, the explanation of the proof of that establishment is divided into two: explaining the reasoning for establishing the two modes, and explaining the reasoning for establishing self-awareness. The first is divided into two: establishing by explaining the object-consciousness and that consciousness, and establishing by explaining the later recollection. The first is divided into seven: establishing by the difference of doubt whether it exists or not, establishing by the difference of many or few appearances, establishing by the sign of simultaneous ascertainment, establishing by the difference of clarity and unclearness of the sense faculties, establishing by the appearance of the mandala aspect even though it is absent, establishing by the three differences of near, far, and intermediate, establishing by the fact that even though the object of grasping has ceased, the appearance still exists. The first is divided into two: establishing by the appearance of the aspect of the object arising on the object, and establishing by the appearance of the aspect of the object without the object.

It is established. First, if it is promised that consciousness is two aspects, and the three of measure, result, and measurer are established, then how is the two aspects themselves established? In short, the sutra says, "The object consciousness, the consciousness of that, the difference is the two aspects." Regarding the meaning of what is said, the sutra maker himself has two reasons, and the treatise maker has five reasons, for a total of seven reasons. First, all consciousnesses that arise from objects such as form, sound, etc., are the subject of debate. Even if others besides the object, such as the senses, mind, etc., are your cause, they will only give rise to the appearance of the object, and not other appearances. Because your arising of the appearance of the object is inevitable, it is the nature of phenomena. For example, food, time, actions, parents, etc., are the cause of giving birth to a child, but the child will only have the appearance of one of the parents, and will not give rise to the appearance of other things such as food. Therefore, objects such as form are the subject of debate. Even if the senses and other things besides the object are the same as the cause of that consciousness, it is considered to be the object of consciousness because of the part of the consciousness that arises with your appearance, because if the consciousness does not arise with its own appearance, like the senses, mind, etc., it will not become the object of consciousness, and it is the object of consciousness. Therefore, consciousness is the two aspects that manifest the appearance of the object. Second, it is divided into two: because there is no meaning, there is no doubt about no appearance. Refuting the other's answer that is considered to have meaning. First, for the mind, sense consciousness, non-confusion, etc., that have meaning, it is the subject of debate. There may be doubts about the absence of object appearance, because it is mistaken to grasp the object itself as real. Even so, for the conceptual thought that grasps past objects such as vases, it is the subject of debate. Because it appears as both object and subject, it is established as having two aspects. Because appearing as both object and subject exists, and appearing as object is not another meaning other than oneself, because the object that one grasps has ceased, and it is not another meaning. Therefore, that consciousness is the subject of debate. It is also established as self-awareness, because oneself is the one with two aspects. Second, it is divided into five: Refuting that it is the same kind of meaning that is possessed. Refuting that it is not the meaning that is possessed. Refuting that it is a meaning other than that that is possessed. Refuting that the appearance arises from the meaning. Refuting that the appearance is different from consciousness. First
