If someone asks, how do you explain the contradiction between your view and the statement in scriptures that consciousness experiences external things like grass? The answer is that even the experience of the nature of grass, that is, the appearance of grass, is such that while it experiences its own essence, it appears to experience grass, and that is why it is said that way. Because you are attached to grass, which is the object of that consciousness, that is, the object of the subsequent ascertainment. Consciousness, the subject, should not be accepted as self-awareness, because for it, there is no knower and known. If someone asks, then, the mind that appears as grass, the subject, even if the knower and known are not different things, it should still be a knowing entity with self-nature, because it arises as the essence of knowing. For example, a clarifying object arises as the essence of a clarifying object, so when a clarifying lamp arises as an extremely bright essence, even if there is no clarifier and clarified, it is still considered that its own essence is a clarifying object, just like that. Fourth, if the object of the mind that appears as grass is different from the consciousness that appears as grass, then the appearance as grass and the consciousness that appears there, the subject, it is difficult to establish the feeler and the felt, that is, the experiencer and the experienced, because they are different things. If someone asks, then, this contradicts the appearance as different (two). The answer is that the mind that appears as grass, the subject, even though the knower is the grasping and the known is the grasped appearance, the nature of the two is not different, but it does not contradict appearing as different in the face of delusion, because the habit of the appearance of duality makes it appear that way. For example, the grasper and grasped of the consciousness that appears as hair, etc., are not different, but they appear as different. Fifth, if someone asks, then, what is the definition of establishing that mind as the grasper and grasped on the object? The answer is that the mind that appears as the object, the subject, from the perspective of delusion, when distinguishing between the grasper and the grasped, with what does one establish the grasper and grasped on the object? That is to say, the definition of the grasper and the grasped should not be disputed, that is, it should not be investigated. When distinguishing according to appearance, when the boundaries of the grasper and grasped are distinguished as different states, the confused consciousness that is contaminated by the habit of the appearance of the grasper and grasped sees that this is the grasper and this is the grasped, and this distinction between the grasper and the grasped is made in the face of the confused mind, not on the object. Second, the habit is firmly generated, the consciousness that appears as the object, the subject, if analyzed, is the result of self-awareness, or
