Since there is no object cognition itself, what should be considered as the result of valid cognition? Therefore, the Sautrāntika was asked: If you say that object cognition is the result, then what is object cognition itself? If the answer is: In each continuum, the direct perception of the appearance of forms, sounds, etc., known by self-awareness, is object cognition. Although there is this consciousness, by what characteristic is it established as object cognition? What is there to ask about this? If the answer is: This consciousness arises from objects and is similar to objects, so it is established as object cognition. The second part has three points: refutation of establishing by mere similarity; refutation of establishing by arising and similarity; refutation of establishing by certainty and inclusion. The first point is: A phenomenon similar to an object is not the characteristic of object cognition, because confusion will arise in establishing object cognition. The reason will be argued below. If it is thought that there is no experience other than object experience, and there is no object experience, then experience will completely disappear. Thinking about this, if asked: Then, this consciousness of object appearance is called experience, from experiencing what object does it come from? If the answer is: The consciousness of object appearance is established as experience from experiencing the object, then this phenomenon is not what we should ask, but what you, the proponent of object cognition, should say, because we also want to understand from you, because now is the time to analyze in detail what the object itself is. Upon analysis, even similarity is impossible, because like this, a coarse object does not have a single entity, so it is unreasonable for consciousness to be similar to it. Those numerous atoms, why can they produce something similar to the coarse image appearing in consciousness? They cannot produce it, because they themselves are numerous and extremely small. If admitted, then the consciousness of coarse appearance is not produced from the real object, that is, an object similar to the object, because that object is not the cause of producing something similar to you. Even if similar, a phenomenon similar to an object cannot establish the nature of object experience, because it is deluded about object experience. The second point is: If consciousness is similar to the object and is merely produced from the object, then this is the characteristic of object experience, then, the consciousness of memory that is the same as the direct perception of grasping blue and having the image of a blue object,

Similarly, the cause of the previous blue cognition will be experienced immediately, because it is similar to what arises from the previous blue cognition. If it is said that there is no sameness in everything, so there is no fault, then it is the same in meaning as well. Thirdly, if it is said that with the knowledge that is similar in meaning and arising, from seeing and hearing external forms and sounds, the definitive mind led by that will say, "This form is seen, this sound is heard," the meaning determined on any object is experienced by the knowledge that is similar in arising. If it is said that because the immediate cause does not allow such a definitive understanding, it will not be experienced, then the knowledge that can lead to the definitive understanding of "this is seen and heard" after seeing and hearing external forms and sounds, has the property that, by whatever reason meaning is understood, the proof of that meaning, the assumption that that meaning is seen, is reasonable, it is unreasonable, because you cannot exist. The reason is established, the appearance, that is, the meaning and those who see it, are close in terms of object and subject, that is, the relationship itself, is to be examined, that is, to be refuted, because of that. It pervades, because the meaning of external objects and the minds that see it, rely on being related as object and subject, so the definitive understanding of the viewer must arise. Secondly, the knowledge of the appearance of meaning, has the property that you are also not the experiencer of some other external meaning, because your experience of it is your own nature. If it is said, then what is this appearance of blue and other differences in knowledge? The knowledge of the appearance of meaning, has the property that there is no other meaning to be experienced by you, because the appearance that you are to clearly recognize individually is also the appearance of knowledge itself, that is the nature, it is not because it is true in terms of grasper and grasped, so it appears that way, therefore. Therefore, it shows emptiness of the grasped. For the knowledge of blue cognition and so on as well, has the property that, those who experience are not other meanings, because in what you consider to be the grasped of other meanings of the experiencer, there is also the same debate of preventing the understanding of meaning with knowledge. Therefore, it shows emptiness of the grasper. Therefore, knowledge has the property that it is merely self-awareness that is clear in itself, because it is knowledge without other meanings to be experienced and other meanings to be experienced. Thirdly, then, the knowledge of the appearance of blue and so on
