Furthermore, as an example, this should be a sense consciousness. Because actually following after the presence or absence of the sense faculty is the same. If it is said that merely following the sense faculty is not the definition, but rather the sense faculty becomes clear or unclear, and thus the knowledge also becomes clear or unclear, that is sense consciousness, then, this clear appearance of two moons, as an example, why deny that it is a sense consciousness? It is unreasonable to deny it, because it itself changes as the sense faculty changes. The second part has two points: refuting the over-extension with the basis, and refuting with the sign of appearing clearly. The first point is: the knowledge of the clear appearance of two moons, as an example, even if there is a change in the sense faculty, such as pressing the eye with a finger, it will change, but the corruption of the sense faculty will not change even if it disappears, that is, it does not change according to the presence or absence of the main cause, the corruption of the sense faculty. Because it is a mental conception. Just like mistaking a rope for a snake, or mistaking a mirage for water. Again, this as an example, just as saying "This is a snake" gives rise to the conception of grasping a snake, in the continuum of others, establishing it with words expressing its own object will also arise at some time, and it will depend on remembering previously seen symbols, and its own appearing object will not appear completely clearly. Because it is a mental conception. The second point is: if someone specially explains in order to dispel the doubt that the clear appearance of two moons is a non-conceptual appearance, then there is no need to dispel it, because whether one is asleep or awake, whatever mind that appears clearly, as an example, is non-conceptual, because it is empty of grasping sound and meaning. Whether asleep or awake, if it does not appear so clearly, then that knowledge, as an example, is conceptual, because it is a mind that actually grasps sound and meaning. The third point is: because there are non-conceptual illusions, such as the appearance of two moons, etc., therefore the appearance of two moons, as an example, even if you are non-conceptual, the very fact that the present moment becomes a valid cognition in the phrase "O present moment free from conception!" is negated by the phrase "accompanied by dimness," because even if you are non-conceptual, you are a deceptive knowledge. Therefore, the categories of apparent valid cognitions of conceptual and non-conceptual are separately divided into two categories.

Furthermore, it is necessary to explain that the reason for distinguishing these two parts is not only to distinguish their types, but also to explain that even non-conceptual consciousness, if it produces illusion, is not perception. Third, regarding the elucidation of the proof of measuring objects, namely the result of valid cognition, it is divided into two aspects: the general classification and the meaning of the treatise. First, in the "Compendium on Valid Cognition," it says: "Perception and inference, these two are valid cognitions, these two measure objects." Since it is said that the number of valid cognitions is determined by the two objects to be measured, then what function or result do these two valid cognitions have on these two objects to be measured, so that they can be determined in this way? These two valid cognitions have the function of cognizing these two objects to be measured. Perception cognizes through its own character, through its own nature, and inference cognizes through its own character, through the general characteristic of benefiting others. So, if cognizing the object is the result, then what is valid cognition now? If one thinks that valid cognition and result are different entities and raises a question, then the proof of measuring the object itself is valid cognition, and the result, namely cognizing the object, has no other function besides that. This is the treatise on the result of valid cognition. In this regard, the Sutra School believes that the proof of perception cognizing the object to be measured is elucidated in the chapter on perception, and the proof of inference cognizing the object to be measured is elucidated in the chapter on self-benefit. Therefore, in the two certainties of the Sutra and the "Commentary on Valid Cognition," the result of valid cognition of inference is not elucidated here. However, in the "Treasury of Reasoning," it is said that for the sake of easy expression, both are elucidated here. Therefore, in this context, perception cognizing the object to be measured is taken as the result, and its definition is taken as valid cognition. If one says that valid cognition is indicated by novelty and non-deception, and perception is indicated by non-conceptual and non-confusion, then by saying the result of valid cognition in this way, one does not even know where the result of valid cognition is. Regarding the terminology of the result of valid cognition, there are three major traditions: Acharya Dharmottara takes the result of valid cognition of sense consciousness as the first, the result of valid cognition of self-consciousness as the second, and the result of valid cognition of self-consciousness when external objects exist as the third. Nowadays, it seems to be very popular throughout Tibet, but if we consider it from the perspective of including all types of results of valid cognition, then the root and commentary expressed by the phrase "its nature determines function" are incomplete, so where has it gone?
