Also, it is because of simultaneously holding the "non-that" (མ་ཉིད་, ma nyid) which is the self-nature of the three: atoms, darkness, and mental strength. If the sign is not established, and it is said that atoms, darkness, etc., are not apprehended, then, the subject is sense consciousness. It follows that it is unreasonable to apprehend the arrangement of atoms, etc., sounds, etc., because the atoms, etc., with arrangement are not apprehended. Just as without apprehending the finger, one does not apprehend its arrangement, the fist. Second, there are two ways to avoid arguments that are harmed by reasoning: multiple differences are not the objects of the senses; the objects of the senses are not the objects of expression of sound. First, in summary: "The nature of the many, the subject, is not understood by the senses." There are two explanations of this meaning: establishing the subject of the nature of the many; showing that it is not the object of the senses. First, the subject, such as sound, is the subject. It is the nature of multiple differences, because it is different from whatever is unmade, permanent, etc., and therefore it is distinguished by the discrimination of made, impermanent, etc., which are multiple differences. It is different because it is different from all unmade, permanent, etc., that is, it exists in meaning as different. Second, the nature of the differences established by discrimination, the various appearances that appear to discrimination, these subjects are not what the non-discriminating sense consciousness appears as various, because sometimes it is not the object of sense consciousness, because you are imputation, and sense consciousness engages in the self-characteristic of meaning. Second, if sense consciousness is the discrimination that takes the general appearance of white, etc., as its object, the answer to this is, in summary, "The nature that is not shown by the terms of what is known by each is the object of the senses." There are three explanations of this meaning: establishing the reason, establishing pervasion, and establishing the property of the subject. First, even if the general term of white, etc., exists in the actual object of expression of sound, then, the direct perception of the senses, the subject, whatever the white, etc., of your object is like, that is not actually expressed by sound, because you and the discrimination arising from sound are different in the nature of knowing, and the clarity and unclearness of their respective objects. Second, if the minds of sense consciousness and the discrimination arising from sound are the same in meaning, that is, the object, but the basis is the senses and the mind, various

Because the places of reliance are different in order, the manifestation and non-manifestation of one's own object will also change accordingly. If it is said that it is not because the objects are different, then, now taking the five consciousnesses of the sense organs such as the ear as an example, how is it established that the objects you speak of are different? It should not be established. Even if the objects are the same, but the manifestations are different, it is because the places of reliance are different, because this is the same reason. Therefore, even if the places of reliance for sense consciousness and conceptual mind are born from different places, the general characteristic of white itself, the various self-nature manifestations that appear clearly in sense consciousness but not in conceptual mind, how is this established? It should not be established, because for both of them, the self-characteristic that actually appears is the same thing. Third, if it is said that the objects of direct perception and verbal conceptualization are the same, because only what is seen by direct perception can be given the verbal conceptualization of "what is this?", then, taking cows etc. as an example, the expressive sound and the discriminating of recognition that you speak of contradict the object seen by direct perception, because without the object seen by direct perception being truly spoken and recognized, you will cling to the previous and later cows as the same thing, therefore the expressive sound and conceptualization will arise. In addition, taking the difference between the objects of direct perception and verbal conceptualization as an example, there is another necessity, because for the things seen by sense consciousness such as cows, the language used to express types, and the conceptualizations that hold these languages, are all based on inferring other things such as types from the accompanying characteristics, and this will also be refuted. Then, if there is no common nature in many manifestations, how can the recognition of a common nature arise? Taking the various manifestations of cows seen by direct perception as an example, even if there is no common nature in essence, they are different from each other, but it is reasonable to generate the recognition of a common nature, because the so-called recognition of a common nature refers to a conceptualization produced by a nature different from the function of cows, which has been explained in the previous chapter on self-interest. Second, regarding the explanation of mental direct perception through debate and elimination of disputes, in the root verse of the "Treatise on Valid Cognition" it says, "Mind also with meaning", and in its commentary it says, "Mind also takes the changing of phenomena such as form as its object, and through the way of experiencing"
