Refutation of answers. First, the blue, yellow, etc. in the variegation of a butterfly, has the property of not being the nature of a single substance, because it is multiple substances. For example, like the shape of stacking many different kinds of jewels. Second, if you say it is not the same, because when stacking many jewels, one can distinguish this is blue, this is yellow, etc. Wool and variegated cushions, etc., have the property of not being the same as the shape of stacking many jewels and a single substance with limbs, because you can also distinguish this is blue, this is yellow, etc. If you say that the discriminating consciousness can only distinguish the shapes of the limbs such as blue and yellow of the butterfly, etc., but cannot distinguish the substance with limbs. Then, the consciousness holding the variegation, has the property, if you abandon all the blue, etc. of the limbs, it is strange that you can still see other variegated colors with limbs, because you have not seen the appearance of blue, etc. with limbs other than the blue, etc. of the limbs. If you say that the variegation of the butterfly is a natural variegation, so there is a single substance with limbs. Then, for the consciousness holding the variegation of the butterfly made into the same number of colors, and the natural variegation of the butterfly, has the property, what is the difference between you thinking that one of them appears as a sequentially possessing object, and the meaning or object is multiple, and the other appears as a non-sequential simultaneous object, and the meaning or object is manifested by a single substance? There is no difference. Because you recognize that both of you appear simultaneously to your respective objects, and the forms of meaning all appear the same as multiple. The second part has three points: establishing the thesis, refuting other answers, and summarizing the conclusion. First, the meaning of the colors of variegation such as butterflies, etc., has the property of being the essence of multiple substances, because for undistorted consciousnesses, it can be distinguished and appears as the essence of multiple substances. Second, if you say there is no pervasion, because appearing as different in consciousness is not the reason for different meanings. Then, objects of different substances such as vases, wool, etc., have the property that you acknowledge as different.

By what reason is this established or not established? Since it appears as distinct to an unconfused intellect, you cannot be established as distinct. If things appear as diverse to the intellect, things are not thereby established as diverse. Because appearing as diverse to the intellect is merely a single substance with parts. If you say that the various substances of the parts, such as blue, etc., are not visible to the intellect, then the variegated patterns of drawings and mats, etc., should not appear as diverse to the intellect. Because there is no single substance with parts. The reason is accepted, because different kinds of particles cannot compose a single substance with parts. If you say that drawings, etc., do not have a single substance with parts, but there is a combination of different kinds of particles meeting, so it appears as diverse to the intellect. Then, combination, should not appear as diverse substances to an unconfused sense consciousness. Because it is formless, because it is a quality. The pervasion of the reason is accepted. If you say that although the combination itself does not have diverse colors as substances, it is similar to the diverse parts that butterflies, etc., have, so it is nominally designated as diverse. Then, combination, it should also not rely on being approximately designated as diverse because it is similar to the diverse parts that butterflies, etc., have. Because the diverse parts that butterflies, etc., have are impossible. If you say that the combination and the diverse colors, these two are suitable to gather on the same thing, so the combination is nominally designated as diverse. Then, where do these two suitable to gather? If you say they gather on each of the parts such as blue, etc. Each of the parts such as blue, etc., you should not be suitable to gather with the combination and diversity together. Because you are not a gathering of diversity. If you say that when sense consciousness sees drawings, etc., although blue, etc., are seen sequentially, the later single intellect mixes them and apprehends them simultaneously. Sense consciousness, although you apprehend blue, etc., sequentially, the various blues, etc., should not be mixed and apprehended simultaneously by that later single intellect, because a single intellect cannot apprehend multiple things simultaneously. The third point is: Intellect, you are established as a single apprehender of multiple things, because you singly apprehend the various colors of variegated patterns.
