If it is said that it is not so, but that it is only the object of the general characteristic of the universal, then, secondly, there are three: refuting contradiction with one's own tenets, refuting contradiction with the treatises of the wise, and refuting disputes about the meaning of the scriptures. First, by the term "aggregate," it is not the case that it refers to the general class of many aggregates, because the individual atoms that cannot generate sense consciousness are actually connected and aggregated with many other similar atoms, and through this, it explains that from the individual atoms that do not have the ability to generate sense consciousness, other atoms that can generate sense consciousness arise, becoming the many atoms that can arise. Therefore, by the term "focusing on the aggregate," it is not the case that it shows sense consciousness to be conceptual by saying that the general class is the object of sense consciousness, because the many special atoms that gather together are the reason for the arising of sense consciousness, and it is merely showing it as the object. Secondly, the treatise of Master Vasubandhu also does not show it to be conceptual by showing that sense consciousness is the object of the general class, because it merely says that sense consciousness is the object of that which is named as the general among the many special atoms that are gathered with other atoms. Because the many special atoms themselves are considered to be the object of sense consciousness, and if the individual atoms are not gathered with others, then the special atoms also do not have the ability to be the objective condition of sense consciousness, and if it does not have that, then sense consciousness is not necessarily apprehending a single atom that has not met, but is necessarily apprehending the many objects that have met each other. Thirdly, there are two: dispute and answer. First, if the gathering of many atoms generates one sense consciousness, becoming one sense base, then the many atoms, as the subject, should not be apprehended simultaneously by sense consciousness, because they are many substances. Therefore, if consciousness apprehends many substances, then it is pervasive that it apprehends successively, therefore it is considered that sense consciousness is the object of the universal, if it is said like that. Secondly, there are five: it should not simultaneously apprehend sesame seeds etc., it should not simultaneously apprehend variegated colors, it should not simultaneously apprehend nogas etc., it should not know other varieties, many

There are also other instances of simultaneous apprehension. The first case is divided into two: presenting the fallacy and refuting the opponent's response. The first case is: Sesame seeds, barley, and other multiple things, as the subject of the proposition, how do they appear to be apprehended simultaneously? Because they do not appear to be apprehended simultaneously. Because they are not multiple different things. The second case is: If it is said that sesame seeds and other things are seen gradually by consciousness, but because the entry is rapid, they appear to be apprehended simultaneously. Because the entry is rapid, the statement that they appear simultaneously, as the subject of the proposition, is unreasonable for you. Because for you, letters would also become heard simultaneously, because the extremely excessive consequence has already been stated. Furthermore, sesame seeds and other things falling gradually from the sky, as the subject of the proposition, why would it not become that, for you, the sense consciousness apprehends them simultaneously in a non-gradual manner? It will definitely become apprehended simultaneously. Because the entry of the sense consciousness is rapid for you. Furthermore, all the minds, as the subject of the proposition, why is it that some of them appear to apprehend objects in a non-gradual manner, and others appear to apprehend objects in a gradual manner? It will not become that, it will definitely appear that all of them apprehend objects in a non-gradual manner. Because they are the same in the rapidity of arising without interruption of earlier and later times. If it is admitted, then, the consciousness that apprehends all things, as the subject of the proposition, this object will definitely become only appearing as non-gradual and simultaneous, because the rapidity of entry is the same. The second case is divided into two: presenting the fallacy that harms, and refuting the unestablished reason. The first case is: If it is impossible to apprehend multiple things simultaneously, then the colors of butterflies, peacocks, and variegated woolen cloth, as the subject of the proposition, why would they appear to be simultaneously apprehended by consciousness? They will not appear to be simultaneously apprehended. Because they are not multiple different things. The second case is divided into two: criticizing the tenet that considers multiple things as one, and explaining the proof that multiple things are not one. The first case is: If it is said that the reason is not established, because the variegated colors of the butterfly are a single thing with limbs, so it is reasonable to see it. The tenet that considers multiple things as one, as the subject of the proposition, is even more amazing than the variegated colors of the butterfly, because it is more laughable than the variegated colors of the butterfly. The second case is divided into three: Because they are multiple things, they are not one. Presenting the proof that they are multiple things. Refuting the argument based on coarse appearance. The first case is divided into two: presenting the reason, other
